That's a scalopendra, very venomous.

[–] Hupf 2 points 10 hours ago

A wild false eyelash appears

[–] snailboy@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

For a second I thought this said "Hotdog for Sale".

No, I would not purchase it.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

I do understand why they want to sell it thought.

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Gicho is a delicacy, you shouldn't turn your nose up at it.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I'm more worried about that thing turning up my nose.

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee 1 points 21 hours ago

It's cooked to a perfect crisp, you have nothing to worry about.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Wow I sure don't like that:(

[–] Nounka@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Not a clue.... But it is his hotdog/sossage/wiener now.

[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Looks like a dick with a toupe

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No I'm a dick with a full head of flowing lovely hair

Thank you for reminding me that Lemmy needs a "Fierce Flow" community, for men with long hair to celebrate their amazing locks.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 20 points 1 day ago

Hmm... very mammalian.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 105 points 1 day ago (2 children)

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

~~Scolopendra subspinipes~~

~~...the species is known by many common names, including jungle centipede, orange-legged centipede, Hawaiian centipede, and Vietnamese centipede.~~

~~...it is also found on virtually all land areas around and within the Indian Ocean, all of tropical and subtropical Asia from Russia to the islands of Malaysia and Indonesia, Australia, South and Central America, the Caribbean islands, and possibly parts of the southern United States...~~

I think it's actually Scolopendra alternans because the one pictured has only 4 segments on it's antennae, but subspinipes has many.

Scolopendra alternans is a species group found in the whole Caribbean island and northern South America, with the Florida population reevaluated as a distinct species Scolopendra longipes.[1] They have also been reported as far north as Georgia.

Centipedes are the absolute worst of the worst in terms of disturbing insects. I can't even look at one without my brain vividly simulating the way all of those crispy little legs would feel clinging along the length of my arm.

[–] frigidaphelion@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

🤓uhm ackhtually centipedes are not insects but are members of a different group of arthropods called Myriapods, along with everyone's favorite detritivores the millipedes

edit for additional infodumping: their venom injecting apparatuses are modified legs called forcipules or toxicognaths, and they are the only known animal with such features.

[–] CommissarVulpin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (4 children)

My favorite myriapod is Arthropleura. Imagine a millipede the length of a car!

"Arthropleura (Greek for 'jointed ribs') is an extinct genus..."

Thank fuck

[–] El_Scapacabra@lemm.ee 1 points 10 hours ago

Thanks for making me google that ;_;

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 22 hours ago

no, I don't think I will.

[–] xorollo@leminal.space 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Have you ever gotten to see one IRL?

[–] CommissarVulpin@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago
[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Imagine how they’d all feel making purchase on your soft throat tissue as it forces its way down your throat

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

I saw a video once of a giant centipede devouring a live mouse, and it still fucks with me every time I think of it. I still remember that mouse's eyes.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Like the stretched limo of a beetle. But also with the most horriblist type of spider legs

[–] WhatSay@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

That's an exotic condiment

[–] Una@europe.pub 57 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

That's not centipede, I counted only 17x2=34 legs! Its thirtyfour-pede

[–] unwarlikeExtortion@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

And no such century lasted for a century either.

[–] EvilBit@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

Knowledgeable identification of an ~~insect~~ arthropod from the photo with cited reasoning: nice.

Dick joke : 4x the upvotes.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] EvilBit@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

Corrected. One pedant point awarded.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

The kind that killed an idiot mukbang streamer in China.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A deadipede if I ever see one

[–] jabathekek@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

noooo it just wants to fertilize your hotdogs it didn't do anything wrong

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Is it a hot dog when it’s neither cooked or in a bun??

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Depending on your definition of 'bun', the centipede could be the bun here.

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Needs more fur to be a bun.

[–] TwentySeven@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes. You are describing a sandwich, not a hot dog.

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago

Nope. That’s just an uncooked sausage.

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago
