For a second I thought this said "Hotdog for Sale".

No, I would not purchase it.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 4 points 5 hours ago

The kind that killed an idiot mukbang streamer in China.

[–] Nounka@lemmy.world 11 points 7 hours ago

Not a clue.... But it is his hotdog/sossage/wiener now.

No I'm a dick with a full head of flowing lovely hair

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 12 points 4 hours ago

Hmm... very mammalian.

Centipedes are the absolute worst of the worst in terms of disturbing insects. I can't even look at one without my brain vividly simulating the way all of those crispy little legs would feel clinging along the length of my arm.

🤓uhm ackhtually centipedes are not insects but are members of a different group of arthropods called Myriapods, along with everyone's favorite detritivores the millipedes

edit for additional infodumping: their venom injecting apparatuses are modified legs called forcipules or toxicognaths, and they are the only known animal with such features.

[–] CommissarVulpin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

My favorite myriapod is Arthropleura. Imagine a millipede the length of a car!

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Imagine how they’d all feel making purchase on your soft throat tissue as it forces its way down your throat

I saw a video once of a giant centipede devouring a live mouse, and it still fucks with me every time I think of it. I still remember that mouse's eyes.

Like the stretched limo of a beetle. But also with the most horriblist type of spider legs

~~Scolopendra subspinipes~~

~~...the species is known by many common names, including jungle centipede, orange-legged centipede, Hawaiian centipede, and Vietnamese centipede.~~

~~...it is also found on virtually all land areas around and within the Indian Ocean, all of tropical and subtropical Asia from Russia to the islands of Malaysia and Indonesia, Australia, South and Central America, the Caribbean islands, and possibly parts of the southern United States...~~

I think it's actually Scolopendra alternans because the one pictured has only 4 segments on it's antennae, but subspinipes has many.

Scolopendra alternans is a species group found in the whole Caribbean island and northern South America, with the Florida population reevaluated as a distinct species Scolopendra longipes.[1] They have also been reported as far north as Georgia.

Knowledgeable identification of an insect from the photo with cited reasoning: nice.

Dick joke : 4x the upvotes.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

It's not an insect.

[–] Una@europe.pub 51 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (2 children)

That's not centipede, I counted only 17x2=34 legs! Its thirtyfour-pede

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 9 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Is it a hot dog when it’s neither cooked or in a bun??

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Depending on your definition of 'bun', the centipede could be the bun here.

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

Needs more fur to be a bun.

[–] TwentySeven@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Yes. You are describing a sandwich, not a hot dog.

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 1 points 5 hours ago

Nope. That’s just an uncooked sausage.
