Its only about IPs, that's the easiest way to make a ton of money with nearly zero effort. Video games have way more fans globally than superhero comics.

Yup. Superheroes, video games, it's all just established IP . Low risk
IDK, the old Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Super Mario Brothers, and Silent Hill live action movies weren't extremely well received. To say it is only the result of the IP and nothing else is not exactly true IMO, there is more to it than that.
I think those films generally fall into the either the "don't know how to turn it into a movie" or "the fans will buy anything" camps.
Now, gaming movies are getting bigger budgets and such, and probably more involvement from the game companies.
EDIT: Also, the IPs now have way more fans than they did before. Thinking of SMB, at least
That was before the systematic casualization of nerd hobbies, people were still protective of the things they were fans of.
If you're in circles of hardcore fans, we hate this shit just as much as back then LMAO
To be fair though, old video game movies had a much younger fan base, now those fans are in their 40s and have kids.
I remember Tomb raider was such a niche film, no where near critical mass recognition.
Yup, we saw the Minecraft movie despite knowing it kinda sucks because our kids are way into it. It really doesn't take much to sell an already popular IP.
What's a blockbuster movie anyways...I know what it used to be in the 90/00s but these days...lol
Might as well be AAAAAAAA games cause they all suck.
It's basically the term for a AAA movie. Big budget, aimed at mass audiences.
A safe way to guarantee you break even so you don't have to make a risk that threatens your megacorp
Some games could be really good movies. And for MGS4 barely any effort is needed on the studio side.
Might as well, post endgame is rather uninspired.
Also, video game movies have a lot more variety
As the movie I don't want to see?
Idk about all that but I would rather go through and watch the trailers for KoToR rather than the entire sequel trilogy for Skywalker saga.
