Welcome to Maple Music, a community on the Lemmy.ca instance focused on bringing attention to Canadian music and musicians!
Like everything else, Canada has a rich music culture, spanning from the traditional music of the First Nations to a unique spot in the Punjabi music scene, a rich variety of folk performers to the big names in pop, and established underground music cultures such as the Edmonton hiphop and rap scene to the metal scene in the Atlantic provinces.
This community allows for postings of Canadian music news, covering anything from the local scene to world-renowned names such as Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, and Celine Dion. It also allows for sharing Canadian musicians you wish to give a spotlight to, individual songs and albums by Canadian artists you enjoy, and even a bit of Canadian music history seeing how poorly documented some Canadian music history can be at times.
As with any community, here are some rules to follow when engaging with this Lemmy community:

No shaming of music tastes. Mumble rap is not for everyone, and neither is country or dubstep. Avoid all "real music" type comments. Refrain from downvoting music that is not your taste, everyone should feel welcome regardless of the genre you enjoy.

Do not encourage music piracy. Much of the musicians and music shared here are likely small independent acts that deserve fiscal support. If money is an issue, please look into free and/or Creative Commons releases, a list of such titles will be made and built on as the community grows.

All posts must be related to the Canadian music scene to some extent. News about Taylor Swift will be removed. News about Taylor Swift having a Canadian tour will be kept.

Skinny Puppy was one of the bands I was introduced to when I started forming my own opinions on music. In my opinion just about 90%+ of their discography is AAA classic industrial. Absolutely minted.
They were essentially a duo of Kevin Crompton (cEvin Key) and Kevin Ogilvie (Nivek Oger) and the rest of the members were essentially a rotating cast with some on again off again regulars, and a fair few guest artists who contributed to a single track or several albums. Some of the "supporting" members were notable musicians/industry movers in their own right.
- Danny Carey, drummer for Tool ("guest" musician)
- Al Jourgensen, founder/frontman for Ministry ("guest" artist)
- Bill Leeb, founder of Front Line Assembly and Delirium (on and off member)
- Dave Ogilvie(no relation), engineer and musician, several projects with Trent Reznor, co-producer on Manson's Antichrist Superstar, also worked with: Loverboy, 54-40, SNFU, Ministry, Carly Rae Jepsen, Rob Halford and Mötley Crüe. (on and off member and frequently producer for Skinny Puppy)
- Dwayne Goettel, not a widely known artist, but incredibly talented, highly recommend looking at some of his work. Had a sad needless death. (member early days, moved on and came back a few times before his death)
- Mike Walk, honestly have not a single clue about him, seems his contributions to Skinny Puppy is his only published works...at least his Wiki page lists the albums he's credited on, but automatically redirects back to the Skinny Puppy page.
Oger's side projects are worth listening to as well, specifically ohGr(side project as well as moniker change) has 4 studio albums. The first, Welt, is 1000000% worthy of at least a single listening...even if industrial is the farthest thing from your jam. Oger also did some bits parts in film, "Funboy" in The Crown for instance.
Everyone involved with Skinny Puppy were highly influential, and while most weren't necessarily well known names, they had a real and deep impact on music as a whole let alone industrial.

Skinny Puppy is easy top 3 bands. And I'm from Vancouver, so a bit of local pride in the folks from my home town that made such a big difference.
If you're curious, the other 2 are Dieselboy (dnb) and Underworld(massively influential UK electronic group, if I had a gun to my head I wouldn't be able to say where any of the three actually rank.
Skinny Puppy were a huge influence on me growing up.
As for Underworld: Trainspotting. Born Slippy. Yes.
