For me it was always just chocolate and the family meal. And now it's that, plus a way to mark the seasons I suppose.
That's a good point re seasons. What family meal do you have?
Usually turkey or a ham with a spread of roasted or steamed veggies. My brother likes to make deviled eggs, so he brings those over. It's simple, but I love the ritual of it! For the fall and winter family meals I also like to make a cauliflower casserole which is layers of cauliflower, sour cream, and Hungarian sausage. That feels too rich for a spring meal though.
I love little traditions like that! They're simple but so nice and bring such happiness 😊
I've always loved chocolate so as a kid I used to get really excited about Easter because y'know... chocolate. Ive got some really nice memories from it, getting Easter eggs and decorating eggs at school. For me it's just bank holidays and delicious food like hot cross buns.
It's the day to make creamed eggs on toast (or what we call "goldenrod eggs"). Also a day for chocolate bunnies, egg hunts, and dying eggs.
Our toddler has an Easter basket that is filled with some small goodies. This year I didn’t buy anything myself, but grandparents sent some candy and toys. We do a small egg hunt just around the house with small candy and snacks inside. No meanings behind anything. We also don’t do the Easter bunny or any other fantasy being with her. She knows they are for the holiday (at least with Santa) but is too young to make a connection that they are the ones supposedly bringing the gifts. I’ve mentioned a few times that they are pretend like bluey but I don’t think she has any understanding. For myself, I like to get a big bag of jellybeans.

Easter weekend is one of the best weekends for a Vegas vacation. The city feels virtually empty compared to regular weekends. Great seats for shows, and discounts all over.
We didn't celebrate holidays when I was a kid so I missed out on everything Easter related. I've done a few egg hunts as an adult and those are a lot of fun.
They are fun! How do feel about not celebrating holidays as a kid?
I was OK with it at the time. We were raised jehovahs Witness but left as adults. Now we do some of the holidays big (christmas and birthdays) some a little (Halloween, thanksgiving) and some not at all. The only other thing I'm sad about is that I never got to go trick-or-treating.
It's a difficult organisation to leave, well done for getting through that. This Halloween I'll try and work out a way we can do trick or treating in this community so at least you get to do it with your online sisters😊
