Yeah it's not actual communism but more like a reflection of the fears of communism in pop culture from the time when it was written in the late 70s. Comment was a bit inprecise but amended.

It is literally the word for "Father" in Dutch and in German there is just one letter difference ("Vater - "Vader"). It is pronounced differently, because it is a movie made for an american audience by an american director and writer.
