Some people love their country like a child loves their parent. "My dad is strong and perfect and can beat up your dad." It's simple and mythological.
Some people love their country like an adult loves their peer. They see their flaws, but also their aspirations and intentions.
Many conservatives are like children.
Id say its more like a brother that I know could be doing better for himself but is instead repeatedly screwing up.
