Great and all. But can we get something below a state of emergency. Everything seems to trigger one of those these days. It kinda loses it's meaning when overused.

State of emergency just sounds scary but it's more about unlocking additional funds for issues. My state was under a "state of emergency" for drought. All it ment was some industries and communities could receive extra subsidies for water costs.

Except it often also unlocks executive powers, not just funds. So yes, there should be a level that allows unlocking funds without everyone having to check if democracy is being suspended.

Ya but not for anything outside that specific reason for the emergency. For this example some of those added powers is so the government can cut some red tape to reduce the problem. The chicken industry in CA alone is worth billions of dollars, directly employees tens of thousands of people, and indirectly employees hundreds of thousands of people. Adding in the fact that it's also a public health emergency the governor using state police to restrict access to chicken farms isn't some authoritarian move to suppress the people. It's to keep nut jobs (PETA, Conspiracy theorist, etc) from getting sick.

What inappropriate powers are available in CA

[–] DreamlandLividity@lemmy.world -4 points 2 days ago

Idk about CA specifically. But even if none were available, it is still a term that is used for unlocking such powers on the federal level and in some states. So if CA does not have such powers, then just rename it I guess.

State of mild annoyance?

[–] Poach@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

We need a defcon system for emergencies.

[–] Retrograde@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

An Emergicon system, if you will
