It just crossed my mind that some people may not know it. It's a great resource (imho). Other platforms have fake reviews or ratings because of rea$ons ;) this one, so far, seems exempt of such biases (thankfully!)

There was a time when IMDB didn't look and function like absolute garbage. TMDB works like IMDB used to, which is fantastic.

But still, I want to know more about the people and organization behind TMDB. There's no detail about the funding sources or who's in charge on the About page.

There are stubs on non-English language Wikipedia. Basically, it is run by Travis Bell (who got enthusatic and added TMDB links to Wikipedia and got slapped for spamming, hence the current state of affairs). It's funded by Fan TV but there have been a range of takeovers since - it wss bought by TiVo that was bought by Rovi (or Rovi bought both separately edit: Rovi bought Fan TV in 2014 and TiVo in 2016) and has since been snapped up by another company (edit: Xperi in 2019). See this discussion.

As I've said before, I went all in on IMDb (and have been burnt by the closure of comicbookdb), so, if I am moving anywhere, it'll be to the Fediverse. Travis Bell seems a committed guy who would fight enshittification (but I thought the same about Col Needham) but the complex ownership doesn't give me much hope that he'd win if the current owners wanted to meddle with it or shut it down.
