If they convict Luigi fast enough, Joe could do a outstanding move.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 31 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

He can pardon him now. It's only the crime (or even alleged crime) that needs to have happened before the pardon. Consider Ford's pardon of Nixon, which occurred before Tricky Dick was indicted.

Ah okay, then let's go.

Stop Luigis Detention.

Is it a federal crime? Can't pardon state/local crime

[–] DontRedditMyLemmy@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago

As much as I know Demos are better than Repubs, this is one of those areas where they are the same picture. Long live the ruling class!

Luigi will almost certainly only face state level charges. The President can only pardon federal charges.

[–] luciferofastora@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

For state level charges, it would have to be the governor, right? Maybe the governor of NY could do him a solid.

I mean, I don't think any US politician could do so without it being career suicide. I don't know Hochul's policies, but she probably didn't get the governorship by being an anticapitalist.

What could Joe do for state/local crimes? He only has power to pardon federal crimes.

Trump is looking into this delusionality thing.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If he's booked, he's pardonable.

[–] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Not by the president unless it's federal crime
