This "cuck" is probably an anglicism.

Also, the barrier between English and Dutch is pretty flimsy.

I don't speak dutch and this is very clear. Is that what dutch is? English but like a 4yo is talking

[–] cybersandwich@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

I've heard it described as "a drunk British sailor trying to speak German".

You mean something that sounds dumb in English also sounds dumb in Dutch? Wow!

I wish the Dutch would respect my barriers more.

You know, a few hundred years ago, they respect the barriers even less.

Especially to their colonies.

A few hundred years ago, their language was a German dialect!

[–] Shou@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Didn't every language start as a dialect?

[–] rumschlumpel 1 points 1 month ago

Possibly, but the distinction here is that the differentiation of Dutch and German didn't happen that long ago, and this would be a lot more obvious if the German dialects that are closest to Dutch weren't nearly dead.

We only respect water barriers.

[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Clearly, you've never heard of the Dutch East India Company

[–] kindenough@kbin.earth 4 points 1 month ago

The "VOC" is standard material in history class.

What Thekingoflorda is referring to is flood control in the Netherlands.
