You’re confusing the action of typing with the skill of typing.

I can't imagine a scenario where a person who needs to work on a computer will not benefit by typing quickly and accurately.

Just because you can’t imagine it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. There are plenty of jobs that use computers but you don’t need to transcribe anything. In my job we use excel a ton. I only need to type a few sentences. The rest is copy paste and using formulas. I do just fine with 2 fingers.

Granted I type pretty fast even like that and don’t have to look at the keyboard much to type. Mostly just to reposition my hands from time to time. Much like you would on a phone.

If your job involves typing to any degree and you're shit at it, your overall performance will suffer because typing will become a bottleneck to your productivity. If nothing else, typing fast means you can have more downtime in between tasks because you're not spending all day hunt-and-pecking

I don’t know your age or your skill at typing but I can tell you look down on people who type with 2 fingers.

I have never learned to type correctly and have been using 2 fingers my whole life. Yes it’s slower than if I had learned but I have never felt slowed by it not have I ever been told my performance is lacking because of it. I don’t even really look at the keyboard anymore when I type because I memorized where the keys are. Much like you do on a phone I know where all the keys are and I type fast.

I know you can’t imagine it but hunt and peck would describe a person that had never seen a keyboard. That’s not how many people type.

If one is required to perform the action of typing regularly for their job then one would hope they have skill at it

Every job I've ever interviewed for that wasn't physical labor asked for my typing speed and took my incredibly fast speed as a big bonus, even the ones where typing was only a minor part of what I would have been doing

It sounds like you are implying you have entered a wide range of fields and can speak for multiple industries about typing.

To me it seems like you have done many entry level positions which yes, most require a lot of typing. I know it’s hard to imagine but there are a lot of blue collar jobs that use computers but don’t care if you type fast. Did you know the mechanic that changes your oil uses a computer?

I've done a lot of office positions, which require a lot of typing. The level of the job isn't nearly as important as the field

Cool with the condescension, you're nowhere near in the right enough for it. Speed isn't the only skill in typing, as well
