News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

MODERATORS

I usually browse rdx to stay up to date with my favorite things: games, halloween, steam deck, etc. Today, im going to bitch about the fo76 sub, and the steam deck sub. Im so, SO tired of these posts.

Fo76: so many fucking annoying posts of people jacking themselves off and farming karma. "To the level 14 player whos collectron i pillaged" blah blah blah "i didnt know you were only level 14" blah blah blah "i left you 1000 caps as an apology and im glad you could get them" blah blah fucking blah. We all know you're just jerking yourself off and farming karma. Shut the FUCK UP and stop clogging the sub reddit for actual good posts.

And steamdeck? This sub can fuck off to the furthest reaches of hell. I want tips, tricks, game performance reports, steam deck news and tech support. I dont want to see 1000 pictures of people holding their steam deck alongside some phoned in bullshit about how they're LOVING their steam deck! Congrats! You're using the device as intended! Now shut the fuck up! Fuck off! Although, my disdain for that place is in part because of the garbage, power abusing mods, these fucking posts are just karma whoring mind rot in my opinion.

And yes before you ask, i do in fact feel better now that i got that out.

There's an unnerving lack of substance over on reddit. Recently I decided to look at reddit for the first time since last June, and every post's comments had 1k people saying absolutely nothing worth reading. It feels like I'm reading AI-written posts that are in the uncanny valley of almost making sense and almost being on-topic. News articles have people that literally only talk about the exact words that were in the headline. Every single post's top comments must be lame "jokes" or one-liners, and those must have several replies that riff off the joke in decreasingly-funny ways.

I've picked up a strong habit of immediately looking in comment sections for good discussion and TL;DR's on Lemmy posts and it took me a while to realize that I wasn't actually reading anything in reddit comment sections. The words pass through my brain and nothing of value is absorbed, over and over. It feels like low-hanging fruit to say "reddit is all bots now" but there's something seriously wrong about how it feels over there. You only really need ~10-20 top-level replies on a post to get a broad spectrum of answers, and Lemmy comment sections feel solid for the content that's here. I wish there were more communities here (especially niche ones), but I'm grateful for what we have.

I am so much happier here. I think the "reddit is dead" statement may actually be true. I know kemmy isn't super active but at least we are all normal fucking people.

You got me curious since it's been ages since I uninstalled Reddit and it's actually crazy how much more invested I am in Lemmy comments. Feels like all the Linux communities are actually helpful and full of real world experience, not to mention the flashlight community. Definitely a good reminder to set up a recurring donation to the smaller instance I use
