Knoot faces charges, including wire fraud, intentional damage to protected computers, aggravated identity theft, and conspiracy to cause the unlawful employment of aliens. If found guilty, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Bruh, this guy literally funded the weapons program of a foreign adversary, and the maximum penalty is equivalent to some petty crime sentences. The laws are so fucked up.

Turns out the people who write the laws have an interest in making sure that the maximums for these crimes are low.
