I stumbled upon this community for the first time a few minutes ago. I like gardening and houseplants, but never heard of people recretionally growing mushrooms of the non-magical kind. Is it for food?

Oak turned bowls with Reishi mushrooms grown from the “waste” sawdust from the bowl making process.

This is the first time I tried to grow mushrooms and I'm not sure if things are still on track as it going pretty slow and would appreciate someone having a look.

I needle biopsied some store bought button mushroom and made a liquid starter with dry malt. Then I made grain spawn with some chicken feed and finally it went into coco coir in small "shoe box" containers.

Can anyone see based on the attached photo if I am likely to get any mushrooms?

Picture was from the 6th and just harvested a pound or so from the first flush. I was really hoping for a good canopy, but scaling up from shoebox grows has some differences that I am getting used to.

The pins stalled longer than they should have as this strain doesn't seem to be a fan of lower temperatures and higher humidity. Once I bumped the humidity down, reduced the light and increased the temperatures, it finally exploded!

Note for admins and mods: The focus of this post is not on the species being grown here. It just so happens these strains are resilient enough for me to focus on grow methods and techniques while also getting fast results. This is 100% legal in my jurisdiction.

King oyster cloned to agar in July 2022 from store bought mushrooms. Did a second transfer shortly after to a number of plates and also put some on WBS so I successfully grew some fruits back then.

Then life took over and the agar plates were forgotten for 14 months. As I have some spare time to go back to that hobby now I thought why not? I put some of that myc that I thought was dead on agar, and some on two WBS jars. This one seems to have come back to life, pic is from 7 days ago, it is all fuzzy now so almost time to put it in a bucket with straw or cardboard.

First post on lemmy, and quite new to the whole cloning to agar so I guess this was just luck. I also have another jar and agar plates that seem infected if someone is interested or wants to give me a second opinion.

After 2 months the mycelium "won" the battle and consumed all the bacteria and started invitro pinning. Sadly, it did not fruit. Maybe the infection left it too weak? Anyone have a similar instance in their grows?
