I'm very sorry for posting a Twitter link, it was the only place it was uploaded, and I don't have access to a computer at the moment. I'll edit the post if there's a new link or something.

I'm guessing that's digital face replacement at the end. If it was Tom Cruise, I'd believe it. 😁

On social media videos, audiences throw packs of tissues around the cinema halls. Tearful TikToks from across Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore show friends leaving the cinema weeping. Thailand’s latest hit film, How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, has reduced audiences across south-east Asia to tears – and broken box office records.

The film, about a university dropout who offers to care for his terminally ill grandma, hoping to inherit her house, has reportedly earned 334m Thai baht ($9.1m) at the Thai box office and become the most successful Thai film ever in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

It is the latest success story for films made in Thailand and south-east Asia, which, while Hollywood has grappled with strikes and production delays, have captured audiences across the region and boosted the cinema industry.

“Covid, and industry issues that impacted Hollywood product flow, have ushered [in] a period of growth for local and regional films, in some cases with record-breaking results,” said Rance Pow, of Artisan Gateway, a film consultancy.

In Indonesia, the horror film KKN di Desa Penari (KKN in Dancer’s Village) sold more than 10m tickets in 2022, according to local media, becoming the country’s highest-grossing locally made film. The Vietnamese romance Mai, released in February, has become the highest-grossing Vietnam-produced film of all time at home and in North America and Europe, according to Deadline.

While screens are being closed down in the US, Indonesia’s biggest chain, Cinema XXI, listed on the Indonesian stock exchange last year, while in Thailand new cinemas are being opened.

Anya Taylor-Joy rode home on VOD last week with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and the results thus far are all shiny and chrome. The latest adventure in George Miller's cinematic wasteland topped the iTunes VOD chart for July 1 and similarly lorded over the competition on the Fandango at Home chart for June 24 through 30. It's a slight bit of redemption for the critically acclaimed blockbuster actioner after it fell surprisingly flat at the box office with only $171.3 million globally against an estimated $168 million budget. Previously, the top spot on both charts had been held by John Krasinski's family comedy IF.

iTunes and Fandango both utilize different measures for their respective charts, meaning Furiosa dominated both in terms of the number of transactions and total revenue. Audiences are clearly still interested in seeing how Imperator Furiosa became the powerful leader seen in Mad Max: Fury Road, even if many didn't show up when the film graced theaters in late May. It seemingly marks the continuation of a trend that has troubled the industry of late, as viewers have shown they're more than willing to wait for the relatively quick turnaround of digital releases rather than go out to see movies on the biggest screen possible with some exceptions. David Leitch's The Fall Guy similarly struggled at the box office with a starry duo of Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt failing to draw crowds until its VOD release.

Madame Web co-star Emma Roberts remains loyal to the movie, suggesting it never stood a chance against the internet.

Considering what I posted earlier, this is perfect timing! 😆

If you keep an ear to the ground in the world of cult cinema, you’ve likely heard a distinctive rumbling coming from the United States – the unmistakable sound of Hundreds Of Beavers. Because the scrappy and raucous debut feature from filmmakers Mike Cheslik and Ryland Brickson Cole Tews – featuring, yes, hundreds of beavers; or, at least, people in mascot-type beaver costumes – has become a word-of-mouth sensation for its wild slapstick, unpredictable energy, and audience-riling exploits. And now, it’s finally about to make its way to UK cinemas, bringing Beaver fever across the pond. Get ready for a film that Cheslik and Tews pitched as “‘The Revenant but funny’.”

A Quiet Place: Day One has made a big noise at the box office with a record-breaking opening weekend, despite not having any major connections to the previous two movies.

...

Even though the Abbott family are not involved, you might still expect some connection to what's come before, especially in terms of where these new characters are at the time of the first two movies.

So let's delve into the events of A Quiet Place: Day One and its ending to explain how it connects to the previous two movies, especially the sequel A Quiet Place Part II.

Major spoilers ahead.

spoiler

In case the title didn't give it away, A Quiet Place: Day One starts on the very first day of the alien invasion, with events taking place roughly over the next four days.

It means that the movie takes place more than a year before the majority of the events of A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II.

...

We do see one Part II character in A Quiet Place: Day One though: Djimon Hounsou's Man on Island, who we now know is called Henri. He's in New York City with his family when the invasion starts and crosses paths with Samira, before playing a major role later.

So let's delve into that major Part II connection in A Quiet Place: Day One's ending. Final warning for major spoilers ahead.

...

Luckily for them, Henri is on one of the boats that's about to leave and, spotting the commotion on the dock, he stops the boat in time for Eric to be able to swim to it with Frodo.

...

This is where the Part II connection comes in because, as luck would have it, Eric and Frodo end up on Henri's boat. We know from the sequel that Henri made it to an island where he set up a sanctuary for survivors.

Henri's boat was one of only two to make it, so Eric chose wisely. While, of course, we don't see Eric (or Frodo) in Part II as Day One didn't exist then, we can assume that he also made it to the island in one piece.

It's certainly what writer/director Michael Sarnoski thinks too. "Definitely a good portion of those people probably ended up on the island," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

"I think there's a good chance that they're there, and definitely there's a good chance we're going to see them again."

Lionsgate and John Wick franchise production company 87Eleven Entertainment have plans for an English-language remake of upcoming Indian action movie, Kill.

Chad Stahelski, Jason Spitz, and Alex Young will produce for 87Eleven Entertainment.

The Hindi-language feature hits theaters on July 4 via Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions.

Starring newcomer Lakshya alongside Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala, the extreme action film made its world premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival as a Midnight Madness selection and played earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival.

...

“Kill is one of the most vivid, wild, and creative action movies I’ve seen recently,” said 87Eleven Entertainment’s Stahelski. “Nikhil delivers relentless action sequences that need to be seen by as wide an audience as possible. It’s exciting to be developing an English-language version—we have big shoes to fill and I’m looking forward to working with Nikhil, Karan, Apoorva, Guneet, and Achin to achieve that.”

...

Kill marks the second collaboration of Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment after the feature The Lunchbox. Dharma Productions is known for their global presence with Karan Johar’s pioneering work in the movies for over 25 years, and Sikhya Entertainment is the award-winning Indian production house behind India’s first Oscar winner, 2022’s The Elephant Whisperers.
