I've been trying to register for an account for lemmy.blahaj.zone. On my PC, the only thing I can find is an instance titled blahaj.zone. I tried signing up for that and it worked, but the site is this weird Tumblr knockoff instead of what I'm used to with instances and communities. I have no idea how to navigate this thing. Where the hell are all the communities??? Why is it just users posting stuff to their followers???

Is lemmy.blahaj.zone affiliated with blahaj.zone? If not, why can't I access lemmy.blahaj.zone on my computer? I am posting on jeroba for Lemmy on my phone since that is the only place that's letting me access lemmy.blahaj.zone (but won't let me log on with the account I made on blahaj.zone on my computer).

Can someone help me with this/explain what's going on? I'm very confused.

Thanks.

EDIT: Lemmy.blahaj.zone is back up. Horray

Hey. I've been getting blasted lately from my trans friends who use this platform, and I've been through a real rough patch as of lately, so I've been taking it really badly. I just wanted to clear the air - that isn't me that made those comments.

Personally, I don't even care about this subject, but my mental health hasn't been good and this only made it worse. I've pissed a lot of people off but this isn't something I'd ever say or do.

Idk exactly how I'd convince you of this but to save my mental fortitude I'm not gonna explain any further.

What am I supposed to do? Say, "oh no, this isn't me. Please don't hate me."

If you believe me, I don't care. If you don't, I don't care either. I'm only doing this so people stop harassing me.

It's this type of drama I left lemmy for, and I'm not of the mental capacity to deal with it more.

So if you'd excuse me, I'll go back to not using this account anymore.

Since my post is confusing, tl;dr. This is my account. It has been since June. I do not have a blahaj account. Someone used my name here and posted weird comments.

People don't stop being trans because you disagree with them politically. I despise Jenner and other high profile trans grifters but I'm not shitty enough to deny their identities.

Do better. As a user of both sites this shit is genuinely upsetting. Despite how you may feel about hexbear, how can you claim that they bait people into revealing their internalized transphobia and then turn around and make shitty claims like this? I don't give a shit if you call me a tankie or red fash or whatever, but I'm trans whether you like me or not.

I was banned from lemmy.world for “personal attacks” for 3 days because of calling someone a “piece of shit” after they called me a “cunt”. The comment calling me a cunt wasn’t removed and the user hasn’t been punished at all by the lemmy.world admins.

The comments in question:

Lemmy.world modlog:

In the interest of full disclosure, this is my other comment that was removed:

And here’s the comment of that user I was referencing, in the Blahaj modlog after it was removed:

This feels like an overreach, especially when the admin clearly didn’t feel it was important to punish their own user for “personal attacks” in the same thread.

Ever since I joined 6 Months ago, I've had the issue where comments or entire posts won't show up. Recently it has gotten even worse, where it feels like I can only see 20% of what lemmy has to offer...

To be a bit more exact, the Comment Count under posts and the total posts of a Community are always far more then what is actually there. Furthermore, if I post something and someone comments under it, I can read the comment in the inbox, but if I click on it to open it under the post itself, it simply isn't there. Thats also why im certain that all those missing posts and comments are actually there, just not displayed

I believe non of those stem from defederated places. The only idea I could come up with is that back when I first joined, there was a discussion around some language settings that could screw with that for some reason. But nowadays I can't find those threads, so I figured I'd ask here.

Thanks!

It seems that the issue was resolved behind closed doors, so it could have been resolved behind closed doors to begin with, and then if the defederation was to go ahead simply announce the defederation.

Making an announcement "it will be defederated in 48 hours" made for this weird countdown drama thread (we even had programming.dev people show up and be sad about defederation!) that didn't really go anywhere, and then y'all just locked it when we refederated and made it clear that you were never interested in input and you'll be running the instance as you please (which is well within your rights of course). So what was the point of the thread?

I can see how it is nice to have warning if a community you're involved in is going to be defederated, but it also drags drama to our nice little corner of the fediverse, and pins it at the top of our feeds for all to see. In fact it shows up as the top of every feed for me, Local, All, and Subscribed. I can't get away from it.

Every time these threads show up they end up blowing up. Honestly, if you didn't make these threads, I wouldn't care who you defederate. But because the thread exists, I have to come in and I have to have an opinion. That's a personal issue and I recognize that, but I would hazard a guess that I'm not the only one. People who have never interacted with Blahaj nor the instance getting defederated show up in these threads sometimes. These threads invite drama, and for me personally, whenever they come up they make this space feel significantly less safe and make me want to leave Lemmy as a whole because it feels like it's just nonstop defederation drama for days at a time, but it's pinned at the top of my feed.

Maybe these threads actually provide utility, and I should just take these threads as a sign I should take a break from the Internet for a bit. But to me, they just seem like they're all downsides.

Update: In light of the programming.dev update here https://programming.dev/post/8399272, the defederation is no longer going ahead.

However, something more needs to be said. Even here on Blahaj, some of our users took issue with the choice to defederate over this issue.

So I would like to give some background and context.

Blahaj Zone exists, because both Kaity and I left mainstream social media to escape transphobia. Reddit, with its lackluster approach to fighting transphobia, and twitter, with its outright celebration of transphobia pushed us here, to the fediverse, and to create Blahaj Zone and Blahaj Lemmy.

To that end, we will continue to treat transphobia seriously. Our goal is to create a space where gender diverse folk can exist and let our defenses down a little, where we don't have to worry about getting dragged in to an argument with a transphobe, or a bad faith actor "just asking questions".

If you are looking for a more reddit like experience, where in the interest of increased engagement, we let low level transphobia slide, and push responsibility for dealing with it on to community mods and individual users, then you will likely not be happy with blahaj going forward. If you choose to stay here, understand that we may defederate again in the future over similar issues.

The choice is yours.

======

It has recently been brought to my attention that the lead admin of programming.dev is engaging in ongoing transphobia.

You can see the conversation in question here https://programming.dev/comment/6131539

For that reason we will be defederating from programming.dev in 48 hours.

There are only three communities on that instance used by small number of our users, so this won't have a big impact, but if you are one of those users, you will need to use an alt account on another instance if you wish to access the communities.

Today is the first Lemmy cake day for @supakaity and myself, which means that it's a year since Blåhaj Lemmy went live!

At the time, it was pretty much a two (one) person instance that Kaity spun up as a side project when I mentioned that I was enjoying Lemmy.

Back then the threadiverse was super quiet, and Blåhaj Lemmy was only really used by me. Sign ups were open, but everyone that wanted to use Lemmy was already set up on other instances, so we didn't get many signs ups, and those that did join tended to stop using their accounts, because the Threadiverse was so quiet.

And then Reddit happened and things have never been the same since! Mass sign ups, technical struggles with our rapid and unexpected growth, inter instance dramas, it was a very interesting few months!

But now, after the teething issues, we have an active, vibrant and inclusive queer community that has eclipsed Blåhaj Zone itself!

Thank you to everyone that has been a part of that! And here's to our next year!

Feliz año a todes!

why this? (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

A

Alt textExample picture of a post on femcel memes without an image nor an image description and 33 likes. Text: "Posts here be like: No text no image 33 likes". It illustrates a problem which seems fly a lot of blahaj zone users have in a somewhat humorous way.

For example (NSFW/NSFL) https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/4804997 or https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/4795872

this might be an attempt to get blahaj defederated. One of them does not seem to be too fond of trans people. Ex 2: 4805706

New spam wave? (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

There seems to be a wave of accounts from this instance spamming/brigading comments everywhere. I know one of them @cobson@lemmy.blahaj.zone has been spamming already. But now there is another spamming pictures of checks notes nikocado avocado's anus everywhere. soot@lemmy.blahaj.zone (check profile and comment history at your own risk). Somebody seems to be raiding this instance and many others through different accounts so i just wanted to warn you all.

Lemmy.world just purged access to a lot of piracy communities across the fediverse for its users. They say it's against rule 1 of their code of conduct, which says no illegal content. And it's also getting more and more illegal to post gay and trans speech in the US. Are they going to start enforcing the Don't Say Gay bill on lemmy?

66

There are a number of posts that I have seen, namely nsfw posts, that I like but don't want stuck at the top of my scroll when going through.

I like the posts so I don't want to block the user, so it's there any way for me to hide the posts?

Follow up on a previous post: [DISCUSS] Recent momentary outages

I've been working on a simple opt-in solution, primarily for Lemmy end users like me (but also helpful for admins), to easily check the status/health of their favourite instance.

🌎 lemmy-meter.info

You can find the details of the implementation in lemmy-meter github repo.

❓ @admins: would you be interested in adding your instance to lemmy-meter?

You don't need to do anything except confirming - I'll handle the rest. It should only take a few minutes for your instance to show up in lemmy-meter.

Out of the box it will send only 4 HTTP GET requests per minute to your instance. However that is totally configurable if it sounds too much or too little.

PS: I wasn't sure how to reach out to the admins short of messaging them individually.

have i said how much i'm glad blahaj lemmy/misskey exists and how amazing the admins are today? blobfox, bottom

Other people comment like they can see them. I thought it was from reading via a different instance but it still happens reading directly on blahaj. It doesn't matter if my VPN is on or not. I'm running in an app so there's no ad blocker

Any ideas?

Lots of people who are seeing top-level postings about Hexbear. Net are probably confused about what has been going on and I want to give an SRD-style overview of the whole thing.
Note: As a user of Blahaj.Zone, I am not a neutral party in this and I do not pretend to be. This is how the whole thing has played out from my perspective.

Hexbear. Net is another Lemmy instance that had relatively recently started to federate with Blahaj.Zone and other Lemmy instances. It had previously been known as Chapo.Chat because it began as an instance for fans of the podcast ChapoTrapHouse.
Recently users from Blahaj.Zone (as well as other Lemmy instances) began to complain about the behavior of Hexbear users. The complaints were about rude, obnoxious behavior: Hexbear users calling people "libs" as an insult, denying crimes of Russia and China, denying the crimes of Stalin,...
Such behavior was not necessarily forbidden on Blahaj.Zone, but certain sub-Lemmys had their own rules on these subjects.
One of the threads about Hexbear: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/1854795?scrollToComments=true

After an ever increasing number of users calling for defederating from Hexbear. Net, Ada (admin of Blahaj.Zone) opened a thread to talk about it. The thread was quickly inundated with Hexbear users, complaining in turn about being called out in this way. Though many of their comments exploited a current bug in the Lemmy code which resulted in emoji's being embedded as pictures which results in lots of image spam.
Ada responded by removing top-level comments in the thread which were not from Blahaj.Zone's users, because she wanted to get the feedback of her own community, not from anybody else.
This happened originally in this thread: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/1959801

The discussion on Blahaj.Zone was a back and forth: Lots of people calling for "leftist and queer unity", others complaining about getting harassed by Hexbear users.

Meanwhile, elsewhere: Lemm.ee, a Lemmy instance operated and managed by someone from Estonia, also opened a discussion about Hexbear - at least partially motivated by the admin's increasing unease of the rampant denial of soviet atrocities and the occupation of Estonia by the Soviet Union. Russian propaganda in regards to the war in Ukraine was also an issue.
Lemm.ee was largely encountering similar problems as Blahaj.Zone, though the Lemme.ee admin admitted that the Hexbear admin was generally responsive to reports and complaints.
The thread on Lemm.ee: https://lemm.ee/post/4543536

The thread was also flooded with comments from Hexbear users. The admin of Lemm.ee also responded by hiding most of the comments from Hexbear.
https://mastodon.social/@brooklynman/110911292961470110

Back on Blahaj.Zone, a tangent opens up: A Hexbear user complains about c/196, the new home of Reddit's r/196 which had relocated to Blahaj.Zone and has been its biggest community ever since. The Hexbear user complains about their comments being removed, comments that called out the use of the r-word and other call-outs. The user posts pictures of the removal notices.
Blahaj.Zone's admin Ada steps in and intervenes on behalf of the Hexbear user, having a stern word with the c/196 mod responsible for the removal of the comments.
https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/2136643

A Hexbear admin also gets involved and sends a message to the mods of c/196 demanding the removal of the sub-Lemmy's banner, because it contains "fuck tankies²", arguing that tankies is a slur. The c/196 mod refuses and publishes their message.
[²"Tankies" is a pejorative term for authoritarian socialists in the vein of Stalin and/or Mao.]
https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/1961004

While the discussion if Blahaj.Zone should defederate from Hexbear is still ongoing, the Hexbear admins defederated from Blahaj.Zone without warning from their side, because of...

unaddressed ableist removals from the /c/196 moderators, defense of chasers, no-quarter rules regarding our users, leakage of good-faith DMs from our admin team, and a general lack of initiative to punish these behavior

In her a response to these events, Ada points out in a comment that she never had the chance to adress the ableist incident (she was in bed) while other issues had happened in the past and had been adressed at the time. Thus she could not react before Hexbear defederated.
https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/2135406

TL;dr: Blahaj.Zone's users complain about ill behavior of users on Hexbear. Net. A discussion about defederation begins on Blahaj.Zone. Meanwhile Hexbear users complain about Blahaj.Zone in turn and Hexbear. Net defederates instantly and without warning.

This is an admin post, intended for blahaj lemmy users. Top level posts from members of other instances will be removed.

==

Edit - Hexbear announced plans to deferedate from us.

==

~~After recent events, it feels to me that sentiment has shifted and more people are asking for defederation of hexbear than previously~~

~~I've been doing my best to try and mend bridges and keep us connected, as it's my hope that we can maintain trans solidarity and work with them, despite the friction, however, ultimately, I feel that this is an issue for the blahaj lemmy community to decide, not the admins alone~~

~~So here's what we're going to do~~

~~We're going to leave things as they are for a week. That will give time for things to calm down whilst we see if we can work together. After a week, I'll put up a vote and get a feel for where the community is at in regards to our continued federation with hexbear. That poll will run for a week. If there is a strong will to defederate (a clear majority), then that's what we will do~~

I’m not sure what’s going on over there, but half the time I see a post from there or go into a comment section and it’s just…bad. Like old reddit the_donald bad. Constant trolling, etc. You TS just really bad vibes. I’ve been blocking the communities as they come up, but I’m not sure what else I can do.

The server will be briefly down while we install a new updated version of lemmy and restart it.

The maintenance window is 15 minutes, but should be much shorter.
