I had a long day and decided to take things easy, so i played some Minecraft. Here's the little house i built. I went with 1.5 because that was the version i grew up with (Technically Xbox 360 Edition TU3, but Java 1.5 was the version i felt was closest to that)

Like for many other people, Valve single player experiences were one of my favorite of all time growing up. I considered both Half-Life and Portal to be masterpieces. It's true they've always been distracted with multiplayer games as well, things like Counter-Strike or Team Fortress and I did play them for sure, because I was a kid and I had all the time in the world.

These days I'm not a kid anymore and so when I game I tend to look more for memorable experiences instead of mindless grinding. Obviously I remember Valve as the experts in creating memorable experiences and I would like them to keep fully exploring those talents. They don't have that many employees, but they do have all the money in the world, no external pressure, no publisher to shit on them, it's just their developers and artists and a vision. But then they use all that and create this. An Overwatch looking moba shooter, really? I'm sure people will like and play it, but is this the results of the vision and ambition of a company like Valve?

It doesn't have to be Half-Life. I remember them saying that they dont want to do another one in the series because they are looking to innovate and make something truly original. My body is ready, give me anything. I can't imagine a moba shooter really fits with this description. I'm wondering how such a low hanging concept even becomes a real product at a company as ambitious as Valve.

I hear people are having fun with the new game and I'm happy for them. I am no longer the target audience and I wish them good luck with it. In the mean time let me hear your thoughts on it. Would you like to see another single player experience from Valve?

Im currently playing Horizon Forbidden West, and one main story point was a serious let down compared to its prequel, Zero Dawn. The only (good) discussions I found on the topic were all on reddit, which I had left during the great Lemmy migration.

Do I need to go back to reddit for game forum discussions? Is there any other active place that discusses specific games?

Edit: Grammer

Not sure where the official announcement of this happened, but videos and discussions of the game are now finally allowed. The game is still invite-only, but expect to start seeing it all over the place now. Popular streamers are already jumping into it.

Absolutely bizarre that a 1st party title doesn't seem optimized for the console they're developing for. This makes me skeptical the PC version will be optimized too.

I'm on a bit of a binge of Fallen Order (I want to make space in my backlog for when i pick up MGS V and FF7 Remake at some point).

spoilerI'm still on Kashyyyk. I'm stuck on a little mini boss fight with a At-St. I also met wookies. Their models freak me out for some reason. This picture was taken right before i take the lift up i believe.

Took this relatively early on, but while in the At-At i noticed the Storm Troopers in the chairs looked a little off while i was messing with the camera mode. You can definitely tell i'm not supposed to look too long at them. I thought it was cool though. Slap a Parental advisory logo on there and you have Album Art

HandOfBlood playing a demo of the remake at the Gamescom. His commentary is in German and the game is in English.

He's not playing as the nameless hero but as Nyras. The demo is a small prequel set 2 years before the full game. They basically made it to test out the modding of the game. It's supposed to get full mod support.

Feels pretty much like Gothic. Good atmosphere, janky animations and it even crashed twice. Good times.

This is looking pretty good. I'm especially excited about them taking key bindings seriously, with even class-specific binds.

Coming fresh off of Avatar Frontiers of Pandora - which I loved - where Ubisoft could not even be arsed to make key rebinding usable by having several hardcoded functions on E and F, absolutely crucial buttons that both block using ESDF to move (as is proper, as per Tribes) or using a lefty keybinding setup near the numpad for us 96% users.

Don't get me wrong, this is still the successor to the severly undercooked if well-designed DA2 and then the big but also super tepid and boring DAI. Not truly excited about the game as a whole, and definitely not going to get this before a few patches have passed fixing the worst bugs.

But for as laughable as the first trailer was, it's now looking... quite good?

Old school horror game Post Trauma has popped up at Future Games Show at Gamescom Presented by Sid Meier's Civilization® VII to reveal a release date with a new trailer.

Debuted during the Expansion Pack post show, the sneak peek starts with an ominous shot of an abandoned train on the subway, setting a suitably unsettling dark and scary tone for what's to come as we slowly make our way through the rest of the trailer. We see our main character explore an abandoned underground before realizing that, actually, he isn't the only one there – the giant arm shooting out the floor is a highlight, but the big ol' heads with arms and legs are not. Far from a few friendly faces, we see all sorts of nightmarish beings that'll make your quest home anything but pleasant.

The trailer also features voiceover work from various characters and a closer look at new faces and environments. Excitingly, it ends with the reveal that Post Trauma will come to Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 29, 2024. That's just two days before Halloween, which feels very appropriate.
