(On Windows anyway, don't know if different on Linux)

Just wanted to share that as a user of both Firefox and Chrome, it's one thing that makes me hate switching to Firefox. I often need to use two different profiles and the way Firefox does it sucks.

With Chrome I've got two shortcuts (that Chrome creates by activating an option) pinned to my taskbar that look distinct from one another and the instances that I open are combined under their respective profile shortcuts.

With Firefox I need to manually create two shortcuts, assign two distinct icons to differentiate them, change some properties so they open the right profile, pin them and because they're "regular shortcuts" instead of the default Firefox launcher shortcut, when I open the program I end up with a third Firefox icon in my taskbar (it does not open under the shortcut I used, it acts as if I clicked a shortcut on my desktop) where all instances get merged together no matter which profile they're associated with.

I mean like why? Just open and update when I'm done that's what every other browser does. Stop making me wait to use the Internet firefox!

I'm just scared that they're saved with reversible encryption on the disk, then malware could steal them

Anytime I search for an addon via the search box in settings > add-ons manager I get all these theme results. Here is a search for "syntax" (via the add-ons manager) I had to make it very zoomed-out to fit long page into screen cap:

I use themes personally to visually differentiate between profiles. And I have nothing against fun and frivolous user customizations. Am not hating on the concept.

I am curious about why they are so aggressively pushed so that they show up be default when trying to search for add ons you need to toggle off every time. Searching for an add-on to do something and searching for a theme that has some keyword included seem to me like totally different tasks and mixing them up is a strange choice.

Is this like a major things firefox thinks people like about it? Do people like it?

Mozilla Corp., which manages the open-source Firefox browser, announced today that Mitchell Baker is stepping down as CEO to focus on AI and internet safety as chair of the nonprofit foundation. Laura Chambers, a Mozilla board member and entrepreneur with experience at Airbnb, PayPal, and eBay, will step in as interim CEO to run operations until a permanent replacement is found.

I have one tab that I would like to be able to run in background unthrottled. Ideally, I would disable background throttling for the specific URL I have open in that tab. Is this possible somehow?

I have enabled the option to delete browser data when closing the app because I prefer to restart with a fresh clean slate. This worked for me for a long time, however recently I noticed that it doesn't erase all the data anymore. I close the app, it shows the clearing message and when I reopen the app I have several issues.

These are things that don't work as expected:

  • all logins (without auto log off from the server side) are still active. I don't store my passwords or anything, so there should be still the respective session cookies around.
  • entered formular data is still around. When I open a website where I have entered text in a form it is still there. This does not happen everywhere e.g. not with search bars but with some enter username forms, so I believe it depends on the settings of the respective website
  • sometimes when reopening the app the section of the starting page showing the previous visited websites still shows the history for about a second and then gets cleared. This even happens if I have turned off my phone in between, so I don't think it's just because everything still was in the RAM. However this one is the most random of the issues. I cannot reproduce it on purpose.

Any ideas on how I fix this without clearing the entire app cache manually after every use? The first one worries me the most because where is the point in not storing pwds when it stores the session anyway.

A great video about the Manifest v3 and how Google is trying to make you view ads.

Why does @firefox have to keep profiles hidden in "about:profiles" like they're illegal to have. It's quite literally the 1 feature stopping me from using it over Vivaldi. That and vertical tabs, of course

Teams apparently can't call when using Firefox

Teams also doesn't support multiple "work" accounts, so I had to boot up a laptop to accept the call. 🤷

Is there a way to install web apps on mobile using Firefox? I'm not looking for shortcuts that open in new browser tabs. I would like to run some sites as installed, full-screen apps. The excellent PWA addon works great for desktop, but I imagine it would not be possible to duplicate this on mobile based on how the addon runs.

Any thoughts? I'm open to using another app or browser that is built on Firefox if needed

Hi all, sorry if this is a noob question but I use Firefox on Android and I want to know if there is a way to block certain websites from showing up in search results when searching for something.

For example, if I search for something, I don't want the search engine to show a few reddit threads or some random news site with clickbait articles or in general which don't make any sense? I would like to completely block such sites from showing up in my search results and in a way tidy up my search.

I updated my firefox from 119.0.1 to 121.0 two days ago, and have noticed a for my usage quite significant change:
When I have a page, say a search engine query or a gallery of links on a page, and I open one then go back, previously I got the cached version. Within reason of the cache size I could go back a few pages even days later and critically see them as they where, just like I would expect for a tab I have open.

I use this behavior to work through essentially todo lists, so now that the lists get reloaded every time I visit them, this combines with server side caching to make the list jump around quite annoyingly.
My expected behavior would be the cached back history being served when available, except when I manually hit F5.

Was this change intentional? Is there any way to get the old behavior back?

Edit:
It seems to be a bug and only happen on some profiles, potentially dependent on some metric related to heavy use, like number of open tabs and windows.
Edit:
It seems to be related to uBlock Origin.
Edit:
It is definitely an issue within ubo, I will add a link to the issue there when I create it.
Edit:
It seems to be caused by the "AdGuard Tracking Protection" filter list within ubo.
Edit: issues:
ubo filters: https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/issues/21841
AdguardFilters: https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdguardFilters/issues/170172
Edit:
It was fixed a few minutes ago, the changes should percolate through to ubo soon™. Thx Yuki2718.
