I woke up today in a oneshot kind of mood and found this one exploring a kind of relationship that doesn't get much representation in media. I really enjoyed the nuances in how Morita dealt with her coworkers/boss and how they were trying to be supportive in their own ways but still ended up causing discomfort/confusion in Morita.

Agreed with others that this feels out of place with the rest of the series. There had to be a better way to explore Mitsuki's self doubt than bullying like this.

One thing I do think is done well is how the use of the green accent color drops away to pure monochrome when it is happening. The only flash of color we get is a quick Aya face interjecting itself into her thoughts.

I can't say this has a satisfying conclusion, but I think that's OK for now since this is apparently going to be serialized. So, think of it like a pilot episode or something like that.

Ah, so Nagisa is the dense protagonist in this relationship. Her friends picked up on things instantly. They really should be helping things along. Himemiya probably has some tips to share! If only she wasn't interrupted in the beginning of the chapter...

I already want him to go away

Same!

This fucking guy... He said this line and a wave of hate washed over me that I didn't realize I had in me. I have seen this kind of thing first hand in my personal life and I had such a negative reaction to Tobias as this episode kept going. I knew from the series synopsis that Dahlia was not going to live happily ever after with this guy, but damn...

I only hope that we can speed through the parts of the story where Tobias plays a role quickly.

Just went back and checked the manga and the nudity is anime original. So it was clearly a choice to spice things up in the anime.

This one is trouble. But damn does this group need some outside help. I am all for stirring the pot.

I haven't gone back to the source manga to check, but I am pretty sure that they have amped up the lewdness of this adaptation compared to the source. I don't remember it being so explicit with nudity. Lewdness with clothes ripping? Sure, all over the place. But things like the bathtub scene with Kuroeda I don't remember from reading it.

In any case, the Alraune was my favorite part of this episode. I guess it is fitting that a plant species is pretty laid back. Plants aren't really known for their high intensity.

Intense and contradictory feelings, deserved guilt mixing in with undeserved guilt, the lines blurred between real reasons to do / not do something and excuses to protect your own feelings.

A better one-sentence synopsis has never been written before about this series. I fully understand it is not everybody's cup of tea though and I usually have to be in the right mood to enjoy these types of stories. Like I wrote elsewhere, I haven't read very far in this series yet, so it might jump the metaphorical shark later like Domestic Girlfriend, but it will be a hell of a ride no matter where it goes.

So, I can't say this has been the adaptation I was hoping it would be, but I will say that Akari was great. I didn't realize this ahead of time, but the VA for Akari is the same as Bocchi. The two characters could not be more different, so it caught me by surprise when I looked it up.

The other thing I really enjoy about this show is the ED. It's a lot of fun.

I didn't get that that sword is impaled in him until watching the episode. I just thought it was hung from his belt weird.

The story starts with Sanda, a second year middle school student, getting attacked with a kitchen knife by his classmate Fuyumura. It's a new week, which means a new general discussion thread. As the summer season is under way in earnest this week, here is your chance to talk about anything you want anime-related, even if it has nothing to do with the new shows. I have mostly been on vacation this past week, so I am going to live somewhat vicariously through your comments.

As always, remember to be mindful of spoilers. If you want to know more about how to handle spoilers in this community, check the guide here (also linked in the sidebar).
