Narrator: the infrastructure was not there

Voted liberal, ndp, and green my whole life btw, and spent a decade as a public servant; im not a hate filled person who shits on immigrants, I just want responsible immigration policy, and McKinsey Consulting is evil.

Both Jason Kenney and Andrew Scheer, the two prior Conserrvative leaders, also completely blew their chances of winning by relying on the rightwing outrage pipeline and by being completely unlikable as a human beings.

Side story, I worked in government and received an MP complaint against me by a client, and the MP was Jason Kenney. I had to talk to him a bit everyday for a week or so, and he came off as incredibly stupid. Blew my mind a year later when he was on a ballot lol.

When's the last time you tried? I had a hell of a time dual booting in ~2016, but as of the last five years or so I've set up half a dozen dual boots without issue, and Windows (LTSC) hasn't messed up any of the partitions.

What is this disclaimer warning about? I have used LTSC exclusively as a desktop OS since 2019 and everything works. I have not had an instance of something not working that would have otherwise worked on Enterprise or Home, etc. I game in 4k, edit videos, run a jellyfin server, mine monero. I'm confused about what you mean

For $7.50 I'd unironically use a walking buddy at least once

I'm rocking a kei truck for landscaping and home reno projects, and it still uses more gas than I'm happy with. I'd love for someone to make an electric truck that isn't a massive behemoth intended to prove something about my masculinity. Just give me a clean energy box bed to haul my lumber and dirt.

Yeah mine was called the [City Name] Tool Library, and it was a non-profit that was independent of our local library. I imagine that they receive donated tools from contractors and companies around the city.

As an example, I googled a random city name (Calgary) and found one for them as well: https://calgarytoollibrary.org/

There are likely tons of similar organizations throughout Canada (and probably your country as well!)

Have you looked at local LLMs? You can download and run them off your own machine - no connecting to an external server. They aren't any more power intensive than a lot of video games. I downloaded a DeepSeek model and I use ComfyUI to operate it locally

On a whim I googled my city's library and "tools" and I found a non-profit society that specializes in lending of hand and power tools! This is incredible and I wouldn't have known about it without this prompt: thank you!

Outside of steam will be a case by case basis. I wouldn't expect a lot of luck, and it may require that you use a compatibility layer like Wine.

I'm not sure what the google maps export looks like, but no matter how it's formatted I'm sure that a simple Python script will be able to transfer the map markers over to openmaps. I'll look into making this if it doesn't already exist on GitHub. I'd like to transfer my stuff over too.

My beautiful kitty and my almost equally beautiful 2009 Subaru Sambar TT2. This model of Sambar has a turbo and is permanently in 4x4. It also features power windows and locks, A/C, and AIRBAGS =)

In Canada vehicles must be at least 15 years old to be imported, meaning that this vehicle is about as new as you are allowed to get!

I live in a tiny house, and I picked up this bad boy to haul materials and navigate around tight corners on the property. I take the Sambar on the highway frequently, where the max highway speed is 110km/hr. The Sambar can do 110km/hr, but it is much more comfortable doing 100km/hr, and the engine seems happier too.

Insurance cost me $1,300/year for full coverage (comprehensive, liability, and collision) and was fairly easy to get in my province. There is a lot of misinformation online about insurance, and your best bet for figuring it out is to make phone calls to insurance providers. No, the vehicle doesn't have to be classified as commercial; and you ARE able to get collision and liability, despite what some insurers may have incorrectly been told.

I fell my own trees and cut my own firewood, and I've taken the truck on two of the outings so far. The box fit a tad more than half a cord of firewood, and it did not like going highway speeds lol.

I mentioned in another post that I have been needing to do some mechanical work on the truck. After a few months of driving I spotted an oil leak (that I've yet to precisely pinpoint). It seems to be coming from a gasket, and from my research it appears that Sambar engine gaskets are known for degrading — so much so that it's quite easy to find replacement gasket kits online. Once my parts come in I intend on filming my repair attempt in hopes of helping others with their future repairs as well.

Thanks for reading!

Current Project – Community Manual Archive:\

Hi everyone,

Out of a need to perform mechanical work on my Subaru Sambar, and finding no reliable translations of the manual, I have started translating the car manual myself using various online translation tools.

To share with manual with others I have created a GitHub Pages site intended to host translated kei vehicle manuals and service documentation. The goal is start a free and open community-led movement to make these resources more accessible and searchable for others so they may maintain and understand their kei vehicles.

The site is still in development, but contributions, feedback, and collaborators are very welcome. You can view it here:

https://tlorien.github.io/Kei-Truck-Van-and-Car-Manuals/

I do not intend on translating any future manuals myself (unless I acquire another Kei truck!), so the complete 2009 Subaru Sambar will be my only foreseeable contribution to the repository. Hopefully others will be encouraged to add their own as time goes on.

Thanks for reading, and happy motoring!

Hi everyone,

I'm towelie, the creator of this new community, and I’d like to welcome you all. I made this community as Lemmy lacked a space for sharing knowledge, experiences, and enthusiasm around kei cars, trucks, and vans from Japan.

About Me:
I'm a long-time admirer of Japan’s ingenius compact vehicles, and I am currently wrenching on a 2009 Subaru Sambar (TT2). I’m learning as I go, and I wanted to create a space where others could do the same.

About the Community:
This community is intended for:

  • Sharing photos, builds, mods, and road adventures
  • Asking questions, posting guides, and troubleshooting issues
  • Discussing import/export logistics, legal considerations, maintenance, etc
  • All forms of open discussion on kei vehicles

Current Project – Community Manual Archive:

In a similar vein, if you are interested in moderating the community please give me a shout as I just want to talk kei cars =)

Thanks for joining – I look forward to seeing your kei rides and learning together.
