I recall seeing a web3 project that was meant to gateway from ERC-721 tokens to some kind of durable distributed storage, IPFS or FileCoin or something, in order to solve this extremely obvious problem.

Nobody used it, though, because that's not the point of NFTs.

Sooner or later I guess linkrot will get them all, though frankly I can't see how it's all that much data in the first place.

I vividly recall wandering into an Open Thread on SSC so many years ago now and seeing those getting the most attention were Bazaar Man and Stephen, the Sailor. What else are you supposed to think except "oh, it's that kind of place"? Kind of this person write a descriptive series of article instead of employing my reaction of simply shuddering in disgust and leaving.

in the past I have worked in the product cycle at a silicon valley company a little bit and I just can't imagine anyone I met ever getting to the next step being "tell the customers the new product is marginally better at 15-30x the current price" and then actually doing that instead of cancelling releases, fire-drill meetings all week to change paths as soon as possible, etc. unless they already did that?

"bonkers" is right.

I feel like only a rationalist comment section can be wrong in this fractal way. It's the LessWrong house style I suppose?
