I may be wrong about the intention, but early in the invasion an older Ukrainian lady approached some Russian soldiers, harrangued them about being where they weren’t wanted and gave them some sunflower seeds to put in their pockets so their bodies would fertilise the soil after they die.

"Guided by humanitarian considerations, today from 18:00 00:00 from Sunday to Monday, the Russian side declares an Easter truce. I order that all military actions be stopped for this period."

Fuck this guy and his 'humanitarian considerations' 3 years after invading his neighour, killing its people and stealing its childen - he finally deigns to give a whole 2 days reprieve (likely to be broken) because he's finally felt a teeney bit of pressure from t'old Donald.

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin [announces an "Easter truce'' in Ukraine according to reports

  • Putin says there will be a temporary end to hostilities from 18:00 Moscow time (16:00 BST) today until midnight on 21 April (22:00 BST)

  • Putin adds he assumes Ukraine will follow the truce and [Russian troops are ready to repel any possible violations

  • It is unclear whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accepted the terms of the truce

  • This comes after US President Donald Trump threatened to "pass" on Ukraine peace talks if no progress was made on a deal

Kozyreva is currently one of an estimated 234 people imprisoned in Russia for their antiwar position, according to a tally by Memorial, a Nobel Prize-winning Russian human rights group

Only 234? Is there an incredibly effective underground that means the police aren’t catching them? How sad the Russian people have been so completely cowed on this way that they leave it to a 17 (now 19) year old to resist.

Credit to her for doing the right thing. Repeatedly since the invasion on 2022z

I’m sure we all hope we’d be as brave in her situation

>It suggested that Britain’s ban on chlorinated chicken was among a range of “non-tariff barriers” that limit the US’s ability to trade.

Non-tariff barriers like checks notes food safety.

“When tech people got involved in the government, they thought Trump was going to take more of a surgical approach and act less like a wrecking ball."

What about his first term, insurrection and campaign and everything about and around him suggested it’d be anything other than a wrecking ball approach???

“Donald Trump is the first US President since World War Two to challenge the role that his country set for itself many decades ago. And he is doing this in such a way that, to many, the old world order appears to be over - and the new world order has yet to take shape.

The question is, which nations will step forward? And, with the security of Europe under greater strain than at any time almost in living memory, can its leaders, who are currently scrabbling around, find an adequate response?”

“When Donald Trump met President Zelensky in New York last September, the then US presidential candidate exuded confidence he could bring the war in Ukraine to an early end. "If we win, I think we're going to get it resolved very quickly," he said.

How quickly he meant varied over time. In a TV debate a few days earlier, Trump had promised he would "get it settled before I even become president". This was an escalation on his previous commitment in May 2023 to stop the fighting in the first 24 hours of his presidency.

Trump has now been in office for more than two months and the penny may be beginning to drop in the White House that trying to end a conflict as bitter and complex as this may take time.”

Is it because he’s an invertebrate scum-sucker whose moral dipstick is about two drops short of bone dry?
