Yep yep I bought a family member a couple of those fancy GLi routers that come with AdGuard built in.

It's scary what a household's tracked without it would look like, and they are none the wiser to the shit getting sinkholed to this day thankfully.

I'm down to 10% bollocks via NextDNS

and aim to bring it down further by dumping any apps/services that want to bum fugg me.

I felt like a right noobie when one of my colleagues said he'd got a Pixel tablet via the Play Store and asked him how he'd won it.

Apparently I don't install and play shittons of games like them.

£500 was tempting to look into it further but as you say, that news pissed me off because I now know my mum is gonna install some bullshit that one of those guys might have picked up on.

I think one thing that's missing from the equation is testing and licensing to ride/drive them.

I know it's an English forum here but you need to have a set of cojones to "drive" an escoot/EUC on our roads and I only use it to travel the short distance to work.

I've gone down arterial roads suited up with live Bradford traffic, and it's not for the faint of heart lemmi tell ya :/

Why even bother pretending anymore or putting on this charade. It’s the same thing over and over again.

If one puts an indeterminate amount of red tape around an object / thing / thought, does one become entangled in said red tape?

It's something that's irking me.

I've been a bicyclist, car driver, drive for a living and also have a VSett that goes a steady 35mph max which means I can lane check but, because I can't fugging insure the thing means I'm always looking over my shoulder if I need to dump some ~~keen~~ eager copper.

I'm starting to think of selling it so I can get a ~~eBike~~ Surron instead and blend in with the local wildlife around here.

We use a fair few shared mobile phones at work and while it has WiFi / unlimited mobile data is used solely as an absence line number because some of my fellow colleagues don't have home internet, actively disable their mobile data (because they use a SMS / Call package only), and really can't get their head around "the nets"/Whatsapp and don't, want to, either.

Which I agree with to an extent since Whatsapp can suck my plums too. They exist and quite a few of them apparently.

There is a bonus to this thou since I get to call them names because of their neanderthal ways...

[–] ladfrombrad@lemdro.id 4 points 3 days ago

No fuggin doubt.

And you know what irks me more is when you buy things from places like eBay or other third party seller websites (where you've consented to their cookies/terms) your email address you use with them is then in the hands of a goofball who's had their ~~personal~~ business PC been compromised.

The few times I use eBay the email addy I use on their sees my inbox flooded. Fucking shitshow.

[–] ladfrombrad@lemdro.id 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm aware of that, but I'm just pointing out many websites do not give you the consent options as stated above which imo are much more annoying.

It's not just a warning, it's also an option to reject.

Some don't give you an option, but actually have a much cleaner interface imo.

Whether or not it's better since you still have to click OK, some don't let you reject them at all.

That's kinda weird.

I've had a Meme11 Lite for a couple of years now and just bought another Poco. I don't see no ads whatsoever, after I told Wallpaper Carousel to not nag me no more.

Alright I use NextDNS across router / device level but like I say I get none of these complaints and think it's global releases for some?

Can we get some sourced links on this outside of "Branch is bad"?

As far as I know many apps use it and while Neo Launcher has seen me right, the woo har about Nova being Satan seems odd in the context of your reply.

Cheers.

I'm a capt' three phones at the moment

While I've had my backup Samsung M12 with a 1pmobile SIM in my work locker for a couple of years now simply as an emergency backup, I'm also currently rocking two Xiaomi's so I can test remote connections to a family members server via work WiFi/Tailscale.

My main issue is while I wear cargo pants at work, carrying two phones is more wieldy than you'd think and there's also something else I did notice the other day with the Find My Device news.

I forgot where, I left my main phone the other day and my locker is a literal Faraday cage according to FMD? 10 minutes of panic :/

I seem to be suffering from the above bug

https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/issues/11139

but it only seems to pervade if I'm using Tailscale to VPN ~~home~~ to my exit node at a family members house?

Is Google / YT blocking the use of VPN's here / anyone else experiencing this?
