Perfect example! Quarks taking their name from finnegans wake! Sure, science is more than poetry, but the poetry of it is pretty important to scientific culture (and therefore to making progress).

How about if you spend more time being an ass to people online than doing good?

Exchanges exist and advertise their services in every asset class. Do you think the whole financial system is a sham? If so I have some decentralised fungible tokens you might like.

If you think ideas can't do good, then it sounds like you haven't spent much time listening to anyone. Obviously if you'd considered it even cursorily you'd recognise that we need philosophy/politics/law to get beyond "sky man says bad" levels of ethics and morality in society.

"A true finance expert... like an economist" 😂

Well, a bunch of ernest and thoughtful philosophers called it effective altruism (see Toby Ord, will mccaskill, Peter singer). Then it was adopted by the deluded arrogant tech/finance bros and yeah yikes. Sucks to be a philosopher I guess. Someone uses your ideas fraudulently and boom, they're your problem.

3-6 weeks MCL. Basically miraculous outcome. Maybe we can survive with MWill?

Sorry to disappoint you. Most scientists love poetry. People that can express the principles of our fields beautifully are our heroes. Watch talks by eminent scientists: they are more often than not exceptional communicators as well as thinkers.

It's models all the way down. We don't have access to some ultimate truth. Rather as you delve deeper the model is able to predict more accurately esoteric corners of reality, and/or more parsimoniously tie together the empirical facts we know.

"what really happens" is for dogmatists. If your model has no blind spots you probably haven't been imaginative enough.

Someone post updates on love when they see something solid? Backup is a fuckin wasteland, we'll need to sign someone right? Who's actually on the trade block?

Right, pretty funny that this is parroted so thoughtlesly. I mean i see where it comes from but also... so obviously false.

Exactly, you think it's all personal responsibility. That the economics of culture have no impact (or are desirable?). Totally ignoring that access to culture is not deliberate. There are massive network effects and constant, unavoidable advertising. Your very tastes are shaped by society around you.

And lol at lemmy as an example. Social media and content aggregation is even more homogeneous than film/print/music/food. The fact that tiny countercultures exist doesn't disprove that.

I don't watch college so I don't have much context. I terms of positions taken it seemed kinda obvious with the departures on the line and the move to 4-3. Hopefully we got some impact guys, but anyone willing to bet on them before we see them in action?

Picking a winner is boring so let's talk about the real stuff.

Would be good to see G up there but unclear what form he's in. Bardet looks strong, maybe TT kilometers will be a problem for him? JuanPe maybe a spicy call after tour of the alps result?

Winnable rest of schedule so decent shot at a wildcard from what I can tell. Cowboys are nailed on. Vikings see the lions twice so hopefully out regardless of result against us. So probably two slots between us, saints, bucs and hawks for remaining 2 wildcards.

Not counting on beating the real contenders but some post season experience for Love would be great. We shot ourselves in the foot on draft capital though.

Last few games love looking like the real deal no? Wicks and reed coming through as viable targets really helping him out.

But I want to see some RUNS tonight. Go pack go.

Probably no one here will learn anything from this, but it's a well written article with a couple of curveballs for me, like over half of NFL teams have threatened to leave for LA!

What a roller coaster. I don't remember emotions like that since rodgers coming back on against the bears after injury.

I know everyone's down on the scheme but I really think if the pass rush comes through it could plug the deficiency against the deep ball and give us an above average unit this year.

What's our weakness? MLB as usual? Strong safety/ slot corner?

I'm curious how I'll feel seeing Aaron in that context. I'm rooting for the jets because they've been so laughably bad the deserve a run. But. I feel like I've overdosed on Rodgers BS so unless he's super straight laced (unlikely) or doesn't feature much I think it'll wind me up.

I made an inpromptu stop in silverknowles today and it was fucking delightful. Amazing live music and a shady spot to enjoy refreshments. Can't recommend enough.

"Just the way they're obnoxious," he said. "Just yelling and all that other stuff about things that don't even matter. Like, we're not even running a play, and you guys are talking about, 'Oo oh yeah, go Green (Bay).' Like, what are you even talking about? The game hasn't started yet."

What is he on?
