Haven't tried it myself, but it looks interesting. I figure that GNOME and KDE are probably more comfortable than XFCE for general users and gamers, respectively.

I specifically pointed out Debian instead of Fedora because of my discomfort with what happened to CentOS, even though Fedora comes with more out-of-the-box for desktop-users/gamers.

Linux has already switched to systemd, whether you like it or not. 99.9% of new users will only ever learn systemd, if they even learn what an init system is at all.

Debian switched to systemd in 2013, and IBM was not involved with systemd before 2019. Poettering works for Microsoft, not IBM.

The changes to init were necessary. The init scripts were legacy bloat, even in 2013. Furthermore, the work from the systemd project on creating separate daemons for other parts of the OS have brought a lot of new features and innovation to Linux.

Yeah, that's true. It's hopefully less costly to stabilize just the vulnerable parts of the surfliner than the entire west coast. I don't think it's possible to upgrade the speed on the surfliner much, given the geotechnical situation it's in, and I believe that this is also one of the main reasons CAHSR is being built inland.

But yeah, I have seen some really irresponsible houses on the california coast, like houses built on the outside of seawalls, actively crumbling away.

Seems like a neat technology. Would be interesting to see how they use it at scale.

They should probably still stop building houses on the coastline, though.

Most of the electric cars I see in carshares in Sweden are Nissans and Volkwagens.

Reminder that Tesla is still under union blockade in Sweden for refusing to recognize any Swedish unions, and has been flying in strike breakers from other EU countries.

The democratic party has been adopting a lot of conservatives left behind by Trump's republican party. I think this is resulting in a pretty strong divide between the younger leftists and the older bidenites. You can see this by the infighting over domestic policy like immigration, oil permits, economic policy, transportation, and this death penalty policy.

I think Kamala is basically straddling that line to keep the party together, adopting a bit from the left while avoiding any pain points for the right. She's definitely more left than Biden, but I think it's possible that the party could break apart into something like a new Socialist Party and a America Party, if Trump leaves politics and the republican party shrivels up.

Nice to see that other companies are finally trying to make a phone that can actually compete with the fairphone. Still not as repairable as the fairphone though, and its unacceptable to have a locked bootloader.

Ja, det är tufft. Jag tycker att det borde vara möjligt att krympa bopriser samtidigt att man kompenserar de som håller påsen. Typ skriva ner bolån eller nånting.

That's fair. I'm just thinking I could never use something like this because I would be invading the privacy of others using my Jellyfin. I would live to see an anonymous view counter on every movie though tbh.

Bull fucking shit. Your argument was that corporate "rights" trump human rights, and I went and showed you that other cultures disagree with you on that. Stop turning everything into a debate.

"CrowdStrike is far from the only security firm to trigger Windows crashes with a driver update. Updates to Kaspersky and even Windows’ own built-in antivirus software Windows Defender have caused similar Blue Screen of Death crashes in years past."

"'People may now demand changes in this operating model,' says Jake Williams, vice president of research and development at the cybersecurity consultancy Hunter Strategy. 'For better or worse, CrowdStrike has just shown why pushing updates without IT intervention is unsustainable.'"

Awful to see our personal privacy and social lives being ransomed like this. €10 seems like a price gouge for a social media site, and I'm even seeing a price tag of 150SEK (~€15) In Sweden.
