As someone who is the first to go "yeah, but so-n-so does this-n-that," I needed this reminder of the thin line between "being informative" and "being a killjoy."
Caveats are nice, but I still shouldn't discourage folx from making better choices.

It's like we should be diversifying our web presence or something! Bare minimum, don't be relying on Meta platforms so much-- because if your shit gets rocked like this, and it's the only thing you have? You're kinda screwed.
AND ANOTHER THING: there's more ways to combat this sort of thing. Have different sites, share info in other ways ("keep circulating the tapes"). It can be done.
That's the thing- you only need to have an account with one instance, and you can follow others from your "home" instance.
But I bring this up to bolster your point- Mastodon feels "clunky" because their onboarding process for new users is severely lacking, in my opinion.
It is offputting. It is intimidating. And that is a turnoff for a lot of people.
