A fake blue plaque has been erected outside a Tesco in Walthamstow to commemorate the fact that the lettuce that famously outlasted Liz Truss’s premiership was bought there.

A woman discovered her house had been broken into by a burglar who hung out her washing, put her shopping away and cooked a meal on her stove.

A cinema that has been open for more than three decades will close on Sunday.

Bedford Cineworld will close permanently as part of a restructuring process after the company entered administration in July 2023.

A multi-screen cinema has been at the Aspects leisure park site since 1990, and it was run by the Virgin Group before Cineworld took over in 2005.

The chain said in a statement: "We would like to thank all of our customers, past and present, for choosing Cineworld Bedford as their local cinema."

Vue now operate the only remaining cinema in the town at Riverside Square.

Cineworld had announced plans to close six cinemas across the UK as part of a wide-ranging restructuring plan.

It was estimated the chain had a debt of almost £4bn.

The company said it would enter negotiations with landlords at an unspecified number of sites to try to reduce costs.

These negotiations saved a Cineworld in Leicestershire.

Being overly fake nice because you want a tip. Tbh I'd be more inclined to tip you if you left me alone and stopped talking to me.

The whole tipping thing in USA is weird. Everyone wants a tip, it's entirely random (as a non-American) how much tip to give. Just pay your staff a wage they can actually live on ffs.

Not a clue!

I thought it was sausage and cheese. Maybe it's bangers and mash - splash (pretty surely that's not normal cockney and still doesn't make sense anyway)

The UK has announced it is giving up sovereignty of a remote but strategically important cluster of islands in the Indian Ocean after more than half a century.

I was hoping to find out what had happened to them today!

Cineworld have announced that Bedford is one of the five locations to close. It will remain open until October 6th.

Yeah, Tories were never centre, but they were closer to that than in recent years where they've been steadily cruising over to the far right.

The Lib Dems described themselves as centre (or filling that space), but I can't find the article right now. I'd also say more centre-left.

The Lib Dems are looking to move into the centrist space vacated by the Tories. They are relishing the Tories moving so far right they aren't in the picture anymore.
