I'm dying to know what AI model he has that can maintain code XD

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Guess the concern is maybe in the apocalypse might not have a ton of food, but having a solar setup should be pretty easy.

But either way, need more bike riders in apocalypse movies!

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I mean do you have a vehicle suggestion that lasts longer than 5 years?

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world -3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I mean 5 years is longer than the 6 months for gas, so if you have a vehicle that out lasts that I'd love to know it!

Many do charge when peddling, you can google and see many offer that feature.

Since gasoline because unusable after awhile, most cars will become obstacles and block up roads.

So we of course want something that can zip around the roads!

The main advantages I see are:

  1. Peddle when out of juice

  2. Peddling charges the batteries, so in an emergency you can turn on the battery

  3. The batteries can reasonably be charged by solar panels that a lot of houses have.

  4. Gets around all the blocked roads.

  5. Generally easier to repair.

  6. The distance travelled on a full battery is absurd

I don't expect any movies to put their heroes on an eBike, but they should!

IDK just thought you'd appreciate my dumb thought XD Any other reasons why during an apocalypse you should find an ebike?

Assuming you mean LLM's and image generation, yeah open source is much better! Cause that way it'll be used for dumb silly things.

An LLM in a video game? Sure, could be cool. A game like spore where it generates species, and it uses image generation? Could be cool. Also if an artist wants inspiration from AI images, I don't hate on anyone's process. All those things I feel like are better if the people using them are in control of them.

Haha yeah we have seen some wonderful singers come out of nowhere with fully produced songs.

Yes there are a lot of people who are having fun, but people producing songs for fun doesn't make songs you enjoy worst. It's amazing that someone can from the comfort of their home and stuff off amazon they can produce a song in about 6 months with equipment/software that would require a studio 20ish years ago. Also probably never been more satisfying to produce a song. Even if it's not "Great" it still adds to the joy of music.

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (7 children)

The level the "hobbyist" music producer can reach now days is mind boggling with the free software they can get on their phones and pcs.

I actually bought an escooter about 10 years ago.

Thing couldn't get me anywhere.

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Jokes on you, the Fed has been running that bottom program for years.

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

And how did they get so freaking cheap?

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ooh watched an AutoPulse one!

AutoPulse looks almost Star Trek. Very sleek and usable. It looks so unassuming when they pull it out, then it makes that chest COMPRESS. I'm aware that you have to press hard enough to get the ribcage moving, but I was not prepared for such an unassuming device to have that much force. I can see them slipping a vest onto someone in star trek that pumps their heart and helps carry them to sick bay.

Lucas is more star wars. It looks like a rib cracker.

So I think I'd prefer an auto pulse XD

I may become a Linux boy once windows 10 is EOL.

The enshittification of Windows seems to be accelerating at a crazy rate. Haven't used linux in like 15 years when I tried using uBuntu, and I've heard it's only grown exponentially better.

We talk a lot about enshittification of technology, so tell me about technology that is getting better!

I personally love the progress of electric scooters. I've been zooming around on a 400$ escooter for a year and it works so well. It has a range of around 20 miles and top speed of 15 mph, so it works just super well for my uses, and 10 years ago scooters with that range/speed/price were no where near a thing.

Would love to see what niche/under appreciated creators are out there! Also what your favorite videos are of theirs!

Mine is this guy who creates songs based on Age of Empires 2 SFX and content creators/pros. So he's SUPER niche and will probably never become big, but I still adore him.

Catchy song made with AOE2 sfx

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywT_qsTPfwM

A totally legit love song about how much a pro named MBL loves another player called Hoang.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPWPTnnIZ2U

A content creator named T90 told a story about how he got absolutely rinsed in a game, and it was memorialized as a banger.

So yeah! Show me your tiny content creators that you adore!

I just think it's so cool that anyone can just make custom toys now and sell them.

Yes a lot of stalls just sell the same thing, but yesterday I went to a fair and the 3 big stalls were so unique.

1st stall was all about high precision toys. Like I can't explain how smooth the toys were. Talking to him he was all about making them as dialed in as possible with these tiny super delicate gears and moving wings on toys, or puzzles that glide like they are oiled off each other. I'm too lazy to go find the thing I bought as I was walking around the house playing with it.

2nd stall was all about large cartoony ones using a printer that can do up to 5 colors! I ended up getting a little dino!

Then the last one was a guy who only printed things he personally designed! With all his pieces being toys that are giant version of lego things like his giant lego light sabers that are straight out of lego star wars

(off his website as I didn't buy anything from him)

It's just so cool that these people can build their own little toy factories and make a variety of toys either in special ways, or make their own unique toys. I know it's not star treck replicators, but it's still just exciting to me.

I actually owned 3d printers in the past, but the effort to dial them in just wasn't super worth it to me, since it felt like an all day activity to get my cheap printer to print my little $2 toy. Would much rather spend $5 to get a much better version off of someone else who spends all day working to make the print quality ace and put their own spin on the toys.

Is the idea of having people compete for life changing/saving amounts of money, then have it crash down on their head for our amusement, something that should end for you?

Mr. Beast of course does things like "Stay in this room for 100 days to win a million dollars" but he is mostly just turning an old format into internet. Biggest Loser of course made dozens of people drastically change their bodies in irreversible ways, just to give one of them money. Survivor once again has people compete for months in brutal fashion with only one walking away with a prize. Mr. Beast is more or less just stealing Big Brother whole sale for most of his contest videos, but making them click bait.

Then of course we have things like Deal or No deal, which is mostly just offering people a hope of a life changing amount of money, then the chance for a better life vanish before them case by case. It still seems a lot less brutal than the other three, but still rather dark when you realize we are watching someone be given the hope to get out of debt and buy a house have it taken from them case by case.

Try not to focus on Mr. Beast too much since everyone is talking about him, he's just the latest example of giant game show so felt like I need to mention him. I'm mostly curious how you all feel about large cash prize game shows in general!

(I do love game shows with bs prizes. Bring on Task Master! Win that golden head so you can put it in your garage to be stolen by another contestant! Also Game Changer, go watch game changer. They all get paid regardless of if they win or not and every episode is super creative.)

Weird scenario, but I wanna do a treat every hour for 12 hours.

Anyone know of a good feeder or something that can do that? I could buy two 6 slot feeders and have them pick up after each other, but that seems a bit absurd.

So imagine this:

you owe X amount of money, and fleeing the country makes it vanish

Or you accidentally are given X amount of money, and fleeing the country is only way to keep it

I want to work on complimenting other men more! Specifically my goal is to compliment people on things they clearly worked hard on or put in effort, cause it sucks if you work super hard or care about something and then don't feel like anyone notices.

So I'm going to try and compliment people who:

Have really well done and unique tattoos

Are older but super athletic (It's harder and more thankless, since when you're young and athletic you're usually in sports and get lots of praise. At least that was my experience)

Have super sharp outfits

Have really nice shoes (nice shoes are expensive and keeping them clean is legit hard)

what are other good compliments we should give each other?

EDIT: Oh and I still remember when I got a compliment on what I was getting while grocery shopping. So if I see like real good food in there I'll try to throw out a "looks like you're cooking up some good stuff"

Hi everyone!

Few months ago I asked about finding a good cheap escooter: https://lemmy.world/post/15970361

After watching this review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsC8Fd7Hb1w&t=472s

I ended up buying this scooter!

https://gotrax.com/products/seated-electric-scooter

On Thursday did my longest trip with it and did nearly 13 miles, and it still had over 25% left. I weigh 140 pounds so me being light might be why it had such a good range.

Otherwise I use it a ton to go grocery shopping every couple days, get to dr appointments, and the like. It's wonderful for little me who works from home and is within 4 miles of most things I need.

Also I have a room mate who doesn't have a car for financial reasons, and they've fallen in love with it as well for running errands under 2 miles so they've mentioned they might get one once they get a bit more money so they don't have to borrow mine. Only complaint is I might try to make the basket bigger, as it's a tad small!

But yeah just wanted to throw out my experience for anyone else looking for a cheap escooter!

So my mom has been saying for awhile how she wished she could play Hogwarts legacy, and my older sister just replaced her gaming PC. So my sister sent her old pc to my mom. Nothing crazy, but meets minimum system requirements! My mom is now kind of speed running learning about gaming and it's been amusing. I just think these are adorable.

  1. She complained that she couldn't find the game for sale for PC anywhere, she could only find it for XBOX and PS. She was looking on amazon, and I had to point her towards steam, and help her setup an account for steam.

  2. She happened to purchase it while it was on sale and she was super confused why it was randomly on sale! Had to explain how steam works. She's disabled and the $60 was the extent of her fun money for the month, so getting it on sale was a huge deal to her.

  3. Complaining at how long it took to download the game off wifi when she was ready to play RIGHT NOW. She kept asking if we could use an Ethernet cable to make it go faster, but her PC was like 40 feet from the nearest jack and we didn't have a long enough ethernet cable (No I wasn't driving home to my house to look for one, and no I wasn't buying her one. Love you momma! You gotta wait!)

  4. She realized she hates mouse and keyboard, so used the money she saved from the sale to buy a little controller from walmart.

  5. She talked about how much she likes that because she's on "story mode" she can skip puzzles/challenges she thinks are stupid. Considering there are games I never beat as a kid because of a specific mini game/challenge I couldn't beat, I resonated with that. Back when we were kids if there was a quick time event you couldn't beat, we quit the game!

  6. A few weeks later she talked about how she was super happy to finally find a youtuber that would give walk through/tips/advice on how to do things in a not annoying way. The one she likes are basically "Here is a 30 second clip of doing this specific thing in this room". She is not a fan of 30 minute lets plays with intros/outros.

  7. Complaining about long load times between rooms, and quests that make her go through multiple loading zones. No comment, she's just right to complain.

All her revelations were super relatable and I just thought it was cute that at an older age she went through modern gaming transition in a few weeks, and hit on emotions we all basically hit.

She's super creative with instant mashed potato's and using them makes:

Potato patties

Black bean burgers

Shepard's pie

I actually made some black bean burgers using the recipe and they came out great!
