We recently chatted with two of the devs involved with Bonfire. Honestly, they have some really amazing ideas about building a modular Fediverse platform that developers can build on for their own apps.

Seems like an interesting effort. A developer is building an alternative Java-based backend to Lemmy's Rust-based one, with the goal of building in a handful of different features. The dev is looking at using this compatibility to migrate their instance over to the new platform, while allowing the community to use their apps of choice.

The Fediverse is currently divided over whether or not to block Threads. Here are some of the things people are worried about, some opportunities that might come from it, and what we need to do to prepare.

There's a really cool open source alternative to Bandcamp that just came out. With some questions raised about Bandcamp's future, some musicians in the Fediverse are leaning into the new platform as a different approach to selling their music.

Faircamp is just a static site, and doesn't federate itself, but its adoption within the Fediverse suggests that people are at least thinking about alternative solutions.

Firefish is a new Fediverse social platform with a beautiful design, cool features, and great tools for your feed. It has a lot of potential to grow.

The Mixtape is an ongoing feature highlighting the musicians whose tracks are broadcast on Radio Free Fedi. For this edition, we've decided to put together a blended mix of songs to accompany you on a drive!

This shouldn't come as a huge surprise. Meta is moving forward with their plans for Theads and the Fediverse, and their adjusted terms reflect a new impending reality for Fediverse users.

A new messaging app is in development, and the project is described as "an open source WhatsApp for the Fediverse."

Alexandrite is slick, gorgeous, and brings a lot to the Lemmy experience. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Rebuilding this site has been a labor of love. So many things are happening in this space, and it's growing in every direction like crazy.

Over the years, I've been studying a handful of different fediverse platforms that bring a lot of interesting concepts to the table.

As someone that has studied and reported on the developments of these various systems, I've decided to put together a summary of things I'd like to one day put into my own federated platform, should I ever develop enough brainpower to actually develop one.

I wrote, composed, and recorded my own song, then I turned it into karaoke! And I did it all using Free Software apps. Here's how I did it.
