RISC-V is probably the closest thing we have. But manufacturing is still a huge deal, as you said. Making anything with close to modern performance means dealing with microscopic things. I think it's gonna stay difficult to do until 3d printers advance a lot. Maybe decades if not longer.

When COVID hit and the company I was with at the time went 100% remote, upper management discovered our productivity went up. That same company started forcing people back into the office as soon as they could. Watching a team of executives intentionally harm their company and try to justify it was wild. It wasn't about being profitable, it was about control for controls sake.
Sony changed their CPU architecture every time until PS4/5. The only reason some PS3s could play PS2 games is because they had also had PS2 hardware in them. Xbox has been x86 the whole time.
I'm amazed at how many professionals use Macs because Apple seems to hate power users. I had to use a Mac briefly recently and was amazed to find they still don't have window snapping.
It also had no idea what to do with my monitor, couldn't even detect the correct resolution. I'm guessing if I had bought a $3000 Apple monitor it would have worked immediately. But had to dive into "advanced settings" just to set the correct resolution.
