Just finished Embassytown by China Mieville. Haven't read anything for ages so took the opportunity to get back into it on a lazy holiday. Highly recommend this book, or any by China, if you enjoy dense sci-fi.

Sound on sound was always well worth a read. That said, I haven't read it in about 20 years and don't know if it's even still going.

Your assessment of probability is speculation and I didn't suggest you meant "always".

That's not necessarily true, I dual boot and I've been using Linux for my main OS for about 15 years now. I rarely use mine but it is useful/needed occasionally.

Why is that called a dog whistle?

Hope it fixes the 'image could not be loaded' issue.

I've been down this rabbit hole as well. They all have problems but I'm most happy with Cantata for library playing (beets for file/tag management) and deadbeef for odd local files and file conversation.

Not really soothing so much as minimizing but I try not to darken the room. I find that being in darkness actually makes the headache aspect much worse even though it is soothing in the short term.

You mention gender role stereotypes but then fall prey to one when you clearly think you should be served first because of your gender. If you don't believe in equality and would rather stick to ancient and out of date traditions that's fine but perhaps he is a bit more progressive and you are not well suited to each other.

It's ok for a woman to pay, it's ok for a woman to suggest a second venue, it's ok for a woman to make the first move. It's not 1950 any more.

Regardless, like others have mentioned, having this much to question after one date isn't a good sign.
