Noooo, don't do it Tony. Activision are awful!

Good for them.

Hope companies start learning they can't treat people like that and keep people in the field, instead they'll go out to one.

Ooo, very good way of putting it!

Yes, sex is a social construct in terms of that it's just a thing that is assigned and a label that has been assigned to people based on what it's assumed their bodily makeup.

Doctors and others don't exactly do karyotype or other genetic testing at birth, they look at the genitals and usually apply one of two boxes to you and unless you look into it that label follows you around the rest of your life. Often, if you don't fit into those boxes they try to make you.

It isn't helpful nor accurate, because bodies are not the same. This is what we mean when we say sex is a social construct, it's just a label, a shortcut through language meant to imply homogeneity forgoing accuracy and meaning, and it doesn't mean anything because it's not specific enough to.

Sex is a social construct in all the ways gender is, because as stated it's just a label that gets assigned to you. What with HRT, surgery etc most, if not all biological characteristics of a body can be changed and this makes the distinction useless. Especially because people are so hung up on what bodies look like and what their functions are supposed to be, yes this is partially to do with gender but it also speaks to 'sex' too.

Even scientists understand this now and though I don't necessarily agree nor disagree with this, they call sex a bimodal distribution, not a distinct binary any more.

But regardless of what it's called or how many 'sexes' are recognised, it's still a social construct because it's taking a bunch of characteristics and applying labels to it. That's it.

Yes, the tories are worse in a lot of ways. But I don't think labour are much better.

Glad to be an anarchist, and see how shitty they all are.

[Lighthearted] Ew, why would anyone, especially an LLM want to be human?

Ah, still trying to kill off the NHS I see, this has been their plan all along. Make it worse and worse so they can kill it off and sell healthcare to their friends so that the poorest die off.

Patriarchy, toxic masculinity, misogyny and ego, men don't want to be beat by women or other genders.

Kind of, capitalism works hand in hand with hierarchy and petty tyrants, the managers often have no idea what they are doing and just see insert currency here signs in the latest 'trends' or think that what made one game successful will work for another game.

They also often hate anything even outside of the 'norm' even if that would sell the game to many people who play games, such as queerness, having BIPOC protagonists or points of view etc.

Sadly, the 'gamers'^tm are a vocal crowd, and the companies believe where most of the money comes from and they might be right. However, that's the big lie of capitalism, that a company must have perpetual growth, especially for its investors, that they forgo making enough money to cover their costs, they want to make all the money, which is why new ideas are scrapped in favour of 'safe' bets which aren't actually safe because they don't understand what people actually want and just see insert currency here signs.

It's like most capitalist entiprises, rotten to the core and why you're more likely to see innovation and real success out of the indie space nowadays. Even though arguably they could and do fall into some of the same trappings, it isn't anywhere near as bad as the massive corporations, but even a little bad is bad enough and all games studios should learn and publishers need to not be able to dictate terms, for that is surely a massive source of why games don't do well too.

Say it with me now: Sex is a social construct.

A 'convenient' fitting into boxes usually two, but accurately not always.

The problem with such a system is that it's limiting and not at all useful in trying to help people.

We should be specific in what we are trying to say, because the miasma of a sex binary isn't useful, even in medical fields as it conditions doctors to think in very limiting ways and not actually help accurately.

It also has many roots in patriarchal violence in determining what a person (though to them a body) is for.

It's also problematic in a racist sense because of the colonialist white 'western' ideas of what makes a certain sex or gender often don't fit those who aren't in those categories (except colonised).

Which is why the 'science' is very problematic in this regard because that is the bias/lens with which it looks at this specific 'field' through.

Okay, not just due to greed but also mismanagement.

Hope this helps!

I have looked through the app I use (mlem) and the web interface but I can't figure out how to give a link post an image, as when I try to put something into the image section it replaces the link.

So how is it done exactly? Is this some setting, special script or app feature I don't know about? Or have I missed something?

A really good video that gets into the whole ridiculousness of autistic/'aspie' supremacy and having a us vs them mentality around NTs vs NDs, and how doing so causes harm especially because then the assumption is that all NTs and all NDs are the same, which is factually incorrect.

Recent some kind creatures have treated me exactly like what I am, offering me things and treating me as very small, and the amount of euphoria it gave me was incredible.

So have any of y'all had species euphoria from being treated like what you are? If so would you like to share the details of what works for y'all?

I am very excited about this, although a bit saddened to see they're still doing it as an 'episodic' release game. Maybe that's better for funding or something however, I thought game developers had moved past that?

Warning for gore and zombies.

A video showing how both the tech sector in general but more specifically the video game sector have no new ideas and try to repackage old ideas and get massive investment to sell 'innovated' ideas and products to people even though they're no better than the original ideas they're aping and in a lot of ways worse.

Is full instance blocking as a user unavaliable because it's not in the version this instance runs or has it been disabled?

If it's the latter could it be enabled? As there are some instances I'd like to block as a user that don't necessarily need to be to blocked from an instance perspective (though maybe they should be).

If it's the former, any idea how long before y'all will update to a version with it in? Thanks!

Hi I was wondering what folk's here liked most in terms of neopronouns for first, second and third person.

If you don't know what that means:

  • First are things like I/me

  • Second are things like you and y'all

  • Third are things like they, she and he
