This would be the context I suspect was in that comment. I'm of the 40-some crowd and even I recall things being a lot more give and take in the past. In the last decade or two it has gotten to a point where it's almost pointless to call a vote, just count the D/R ratio in a chamber and you have the result.

Maybe so maybe not, but you can bet that where they a registered D it would be shouted at the top of the hour from every conservative news outlet to feed the persecution complex. Case as it is though I would expect a lot of 'not a real Republican' spin on it.

Was waiting on this, someone from the right who realized what the rest of the world knew already. That letting a self declared 'day one dictator' back at the reigns is bad for everyone.

Mark this for comparison to the inevitable vengeful rant forthcoming from Trump when he gets his hands on a phone.

Why do you guess all these supposed leftists hang out on a platform like Xitter, notoriously taken over by a bunch of conservatives and neo-nazis and run by a tool like Musk, just to screen cap 'Biden Bad' pics to post to Lemmy.

Never an original thought, and certainly won't answer when anyone asks what viable solution they propose to defeat Trump, project 2025, restore Roe, etc, since obviously Biden is so wrong...

This is the kind of thing they mean when people saying AI needs restraints... /s

Largely another day of this specific user posting twitter screens of how bad they think Biden is. You could swear it's their paid job.

After all, they wouldn't want anyone to call them out on continuing chicanery during such a trivial event as their home country's presidential election cycle...

All those words and not a single one making any attempt at answering the question asked. You're supposed to have the script planned further ahead than that.

Try shifting your perspective to be not that Biden is unpopular but that Hitler, um, Trump is exceedingly popular with his people. It's a cult following that will never care what he did or says, so long as it hurts the 'others' that they oppose. It doesn't matter who you put on the ballot, MAGA people oppose them if Trump opposes them.

Who is surprised here, raise your object manipulation attachment, er, hand...

Yet I see those same posts screen-shot and posted here as though they was reliable news sources.

There have been 2% swings in either direction for no notable reason at all. The end result is all this hand wringing over the debate is likely to be erased in the next month depending on the phase of the moon when they ask again.

Hey all,

So I'm looking to take an active step here to understand better some things that my straight/white/cis/middle-aged male brain has had a tough time wrapping itself around, particularly in the gender identity front.

I'm working from the understanding of physical sex as the bio-bits and the expressed identity as being separate things, so that part is easy enough.

What's confusing to me though is like this. If we take gender as being an expression of your persona, a set of traits that define one as male, female, or some combination of both then what function does a title/pronoun serve? To assume that some things are masculine or feminine traits seems to put unneeded rigidity to things.

We've had men or women who enjoy things traditionally associated with the other gender for as long as there have been people I expect. If that's the case then what purpose does the need for a gender title serve?

I'll admit personally questioning some things like fairness in cis/trans integrated sports, but that's outside what I'm asking here. Some things like bathroom laws are just society needing to get over itself in thinking our personal parts are all that special.

Certainly not trying to stir up any fights, just trying to get some input from people that have a different life experience than myself. Is it really as simple as a preferred title?

Edit: Just wanted to take a second to thank all the people here who took the time to write some truly extensive thoughts and explanations, even getting into some full on citation-laden studies into neurology that'll give me plenty to digest. You all have shown a great deal of patience with me updating some thinking from the bio/social teachings of 20+ years back. 🙂
