The actions of Russian Mercenaries in Mali are the results of soldiers being in a war, they are there by the choice of the highly popular military junta they're not an invading force they're there to help with destroying ISIS, and when you give a bunch of idiots guns and put them somewhere far from home they're going to kill innocent people at some point, but I don't trust a single bit of reporting from western media on this, the same media that was hiding the crimes of western armies in Iraq and Mali itself suddenly caring about innocent civilians, and unlike France the U.S. Russia wasn't part of the Safari club and wasn't the one funding the Afghanistan terrorists in the 80s.
