What kind of effect does knowing exactly which people downvoted you have on a platform? Is there a chilling effect on downvotes, is there revenge downvoting? I guess we'll find out.

It's not like we haven't had public downvoting in the fediverse yet. We already found out in the past.

Kbin had public downvotes and the main effect was that people put more thought into their downvotes. While I assume it wasn't without abuse, I've never seen it brought up as an active problem, just something that could theoretically happen.

Matrix definitely is federated.

You ran into the trap of taking "fediverse" at face value. It neither invented nor monopolizes federation. E-Mail is federated and has nothing to do with the fediverse. Wikipedia's page on federation lists the very internet itself as the prime example.

Not implementing ActivityPub doesn't mean Matrix isn't federated.

I disagree that commenting for the sake of commenting is a good idea. Quality over quantity, a single meaningful discussion is superior to a sea of low effort garbage. I also want the fediverse to take off, but not at the cost of adopting modern Reddit culture.

a “good post”, by this metric, is really just a post that baits lots and lots of engagement

Baiting anything is bad.

by thread bumping

Thread bumping is still possible on Reddit-like social media too. Just use a sort that responds to activity, like the Active sort on Mbin or Piefed.

There WAS 1 chick in the fediverse.

The situation took a dark turn recently.

[–] Pamasich@kbin.earth 2 points 2 weeks ago

No, they're downvoting because they don't like what the post is saying.

People misusing voting buttons as a like/dlislike button is a well known issue and reality, at least on Reddit. But considering the system works the exact same here, it's no surprise that the same problem persists here as well.

I assume it's due to people not trusting Youtube with false positives. They don't have the best reputation with the rest of their AI moderation stuff.

The notifications are redirecting even Old Reddit users to WWW...

That's not the issue. If you configured your settings correctly (they're per-device and get reset on clearing cookies), www.reddit.com is still old reddit too.

The issue is that neither chat nor notifications respect that. They both enforce shreddit despite oldreddit being configured as the default.

And yes, the only realistic reason is that they're phasing out old reddit by replacing its features one by one by shreddit-exclusive ones.

Considering your wording in the last paragraph

I'm really confused by people's reaction to OP here. I agree that I personally don't share OP's experiences, but what's wrong with that last paragraph? It's not overwhelming at all, so how does it indicate that their writing style is overwhelming? (I know MINE is, no need to point that out)

If people have trouble understanding it, then reading comprehension must really be at rock bottom.

I agree that formatting is important with l proper text length, but this is literally two lines, this isn't in need of bullet points.

If you ask me, anti-propaganda is facts

You know how "woke" (awake; aware of what's going on) is considered a negative by the far right?

Their entire point is to abandon the facts of reality and instead live in a dream world where only their imagination is real. Facts and people who cling to the real world are their enemy to that end.

Testing something, please ignore

A dark bolt of lightning streaks across the sky.
The first demigod arrived at the mountain peaks, listening to the counsel of destiny.
The final meteor pierced through Evernight, becoming the sword that defies calamity.
At that time, they were still waiting:
Or perhaps a chess piece biding its time,
An after echo of a wave,
A hem of a skirt not yet sewn,
A gold coin with different faces on each side.
Or a butterfly perched on a branch,
A paradoxical retort,
A gentle warm ray of light,
A migrating lion,
An unnamed sword.
...
The Chrysos Heir who opens the "path,"
Your soul shall be sundered by divergent paths
— But dawn will arrive.

  • Feature: For multiplayer servers, added a connection queue for when a game server is full (Experimental, off by default. Set MaxClientsInQueue in serverconfig.json to a value above 0 to activate it - the number determines how many players are allowed to sit waiting in the queue)

  • Feature: For multiplayer, added a ModWhiteList for better control of used mods on game servers (set via serverconfig.json)

  • Tweak: The decorative chimney block now covers entire bottom of block, and provides a solid downward face for creating a room

  • Tweak: Interactions with a tamed Elk, such as mounting/unmounting and attaching/removing attachments, is now only possible for the Elk's owner. (As a reminder, attach a medallion to an Elk's brow to claim ownership)

  • Tweak: Further reduced spawn quantity of new mobs during Temporal Storms

  • Tweak: Some animals need to be of a certain generation before they can be roped. Goats are now rope tieable

  • Tweak: Added tongs transforms to a large number of metal and ceramic items

  • Performance tweaks:

    • Fix a source of server-side lag spikes (Technical info: Addresses 5-200ms despawn times for individual entities, entities should now be despawning in microseconds)
    • Reduce server RAM use by approximately 82MB through reducing duplicate Block/Item/Entity data
    • Doubles the client side framerate around lots of entities, e.g. when spawning 2000 chickens
    • Reduce overkill butterfly spawn attempts
  • Tweak: Reduce error log spam when too many sounds get loaded, now prints a notification 2x per second instead

  • Tweak: On client startup, silently re-try to verify the single player session a second time if the first one fails

  • Tweak: Allow /wgen pregen command to be run from console

  • Tweak: On World creation when the worldname is empty choose a random one again

  • Tweak: Fix role change audit log: caller name, role and target player name were not in the correct order

  • Tweak: Update community translations

  • Fixed: Should permanently fix player phasing into blocks when getting damaged

  • Fixed: Minimap opening at game start when it was supposed to be turned off

  • Fixed: Beehive Kiln instantly firing blocks inside

  • Fixed: Colors in character customization screen now named correctly

  • Fixed: Should prevent tamed Elks attacking players after suffering fall damage and similar

  • Fixed: Should fix Elk teleporting into Lava/Boiling water

  • Fixed: Water rendering at the wall of a solid block (e.g. on a chiseled trough)

  • Fixed: Light brown raw daub recipe only allow each sand to work with one clay type, rather than either sand with either clay type.

  • Fixed: Rift Ward was blocking rifts even when not activated

  • Fixed: Devastated soil and rock were chiselable

  • Fixed: Treasure Hunter Trader should drop item when giving a map to a player whose inventory is full

  • Fixed: Treasure maps could get broken by regenerating/deleting chunks and cause server-side errors

  • Fixed: 2nd Story Chapter boss stuck in mid air

  • Fixed: Land Claims would not work properly for large ones like the Devastation area after a restart

  • Fixed: Maybe fixes players able to break the Jonas lens on the tower

  • Fixed: Chat not opening on Broadcast messages like Temporal Storm warnings.

  • Fixed: Command: Waypoint modify command did not check the waypoint index correctly and could cause an error

  • Fixed: Server throwing an exception when the masterserver sends an invalid response

  • Fixed: Rare issue where player group commands op/deop/kick would not work properly on some servers

  • Fixed: Can pick up ingot molds while holding a mold

  • Fixed: Overhead chat message no longer displayed

  • Fixed: Log spam with charcoal pits when it has ground stored objects inside the charcoal pit (BlockFirepit.IsFirewoodPile)

  • Fixed: Server side exceptions thrown by a bowl of meal in water

  • API Change: Certain elements of blocks, items and entities which are intended for use on client-side only - for example, Textures and ShapeInventory - are now null on a server after game start. (Mods are not expected to make use of these on the server-side: if a coded mod experiences new "Object reference not set" errors in game versions 1.20.4+, it may need to check its code to ensure that code referencing these things runs only on client-side.)

  • API Change: Added Block.CanAcceptFallOnto() method, for thread safety this must be used if implementing Block.OnFallOnto()

Does anyone know of any interesting and unique #Minecraft "clones", like #VintageStory or even #Terraria (which is a bit far removed from Minecraft, but I'd count it for this question)? I do know of #4DMiner and those two, but that's about it.

Edit: To clarify, I mean games that are clearly inspired by Minecraft, and would be called clones of it by ignorant people, but which actually offer a unique experience of their own. Luanti sounds like it probably has some interesting cases of this, but MineClone itself is actually the opposite of what I'm looking for.

This is a community for discussing Beyond Skyrim on the fediverse.

I'm not affiliated with the actual Beyond Skyrim team. If you want to ask them questions, your best bet is their official subreddit and their Discord server.

You can mostly expect me to repost progress update posts here. I've added some recent ones for now, and will be posting new ones going forward.

FAQ

What is Beyond Skyrim? Beyond Skyrim is a mod project for Skyrim which aims to add the rest of the world of The Elder Scrolls to the game. This includes areas from previous games like Morrowind or Cyrodiil, but also entirely never before seen places like Atmora. The project consists of several subprojects, which each tackles a different region of the map.

What's the difference between this and Skyblivion? Skyblivion aims to bring Skyrim's predecessor, TES 4: Oblivion, to Skyrim's engine. It's a total conversion project which is meant to be a replacement to playing Oblivion itself. Beyond Skyrim, on the other hand, aims to expand the playable world to Cyrodiil (and other provinces). It's set in the same time period as Skyrim, two centuries after Oblivion. There will be a ton of differences between Beyond Skyrim's Cyrodiil and Skyblivion's.

What's being worked on? The project currently consists of the following subprojects:

  • Cyrodiil: Seat of Sundered Kings, which aims to bring the heartlands of the Empire, Cyrodiil, to Skyrim.
  • Morrowind: The Star-Wounded East, which aims to bring the home of the Dunmer to Skyrim.
  • Illiac Bay: Tower of Dawn, which covers both Hammerfell and High Rock together.
  • Elsweyr: Sugar and Blood, which is adding the home of the Khajiit.
  • Argonia: The Roots of the World, which is bringing us the marshes and jungles that Argonians call their home. "Argonia" is the non-imperial name for Black Marsh.
  • Valenwood: Lure of the Wilds, which aims to create the province of the Bosmer in Skyrim.
  • Roscrea: Voices of the Deep, which is adding a large island located somewhere between Atmora, Skyrim, and Solstheim.
  • Atmora: Expedition to the North, a more story-driven mod in which you take part in an expedition to the northern continent of Atmora, the homeland of humanity.

Where's Summerset? Are these all the projects? Additional projects may join in the future, but they need to already have some progress to show for themselves. Beyond Skyrim is quite reluctant to accept new projects until they actually release one. Valenwood only relatively recently joined the project however, having been merely partnered with Beyond Skyrim before that, so it's definitely possible.

There are related projects for Alinor (Summerset Isles), Thras (home of the necromancer slugs), Esroniet (an island on the way to Akavir), and Pyandonea (a continent to the south). Those might join Beyond Skyrim in the future, but they're not quite there yet.

Why don't they just all work on one province at a time? Why spread so thin? With a project covering this much ground, different people join because they're interested in different regions. Someone who joins the team because of their interest in Morrowind would hate having to complete Cyrodiil first. They just want to work on Morrowind. And so they do. There are members that work on multiple projects, it's all about where your interests lie.

Can I play this already? If not, when will it release? There is no release date yet for any of the projects. Cyrodiil has a prerelease out, giving you access to just the region of Bruma. Other large projects like Morrowind and Illiac Bay plan their own such prerelease. However, their next goal is the full province, not more pieces of it.

Will this be on consoles? No. Bruma itself had to be split into multiple parts, so especially the large projects like Cyrodiil and Morrowind will definitely not come to consoles. Smaller projects and the other prereleases MIGHT come to Xbox if they're small enough, though last I've read there are no plans to.

Does Beyond Skyrim respect ESO's lore and world design? Many projects started before ESO, and the game keeps getting new content. It's simply not feasible for Beyond Skyrim to constantly change their plans to fit the whims of Bethesda and Zenimax. They're certainly drawing inspiration from ESO, but that's about it.

I want to help out, but don't know how to mod. The Beyond Skyrim team created the Arcane University Discord channel to train aspiring members, though it's open to everyone who wants to learn how to mod the game. If you wish to join Beyond Skyrim, they have an FAQ on that on their Discord channel which I've linked above.

This map was provided to the community as part of their advent calendar. It shows their progress with the terrain of the various projects. A new map is expected every Christmas.
