I'm getting so tired of the pessimists who are against AI. Granted, I can reflect and see my own similar attitude towards Trump: no matter what, I would never vote for him considering his history and who he is as a person. But treating the next generation of technology feels different than that to me; AI is the future, it's the next revolution. Sure, there are several real issues to criticize and question (copyright, compensation, hallucination come to mind) but instead shit here on Lemmy just gets downvoted to hell with no explanation. I know this comment will get downvoted, but I just wish we could have a discussion about the future without shutting down every practical comment wanting to talk about it.

Thank you. Lemmy is a very unique kind of echo chamber, and I often seem to say things that aren't exactly the "right" opinion.

What a weird little coward

On the one hand: yes. Fuck Russia, they initiated this conflict, and retaliation against your aggressors should be at least proportional if not moreso.

On the other hand: I have a lot of trepidation about escalations of conflict. WWIII feels very possible with the current instability between Russia/Ukraine and Israel/Palestine, and every increase in violence edges us closer. I don't think we're at the same risk level as we were at the height of the cold war, but we're close.

The question is how do we minimize loss of life while maximizing justice. The first consideration is objective, the second is subjective. I don't have a good answer, and I don't know how allowing Ukraine to show full force will impact either. War sucks

What an incredible overview that was both detailed and digestible! I really appreciate it, that makes a lot of sense and answered all my questions

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the succinct explanation

I don't expect you to have the answers, but is the ISS nearing end of life because of technology, or because of gravitational pull? If it's the latter, how feasible would it be to attach rockets and drag it further away?

What a weird hill to die on

Like I said, they just hate AI here. It's pretty amusing

Idk liquor works pretty well and is already a booming industry

I hate this news story. If I wasn't living in this community (Douglas county) I would think it's a good story. However, Douglas county has massive NIMBY policies, including outlawing everything that would allow someone experiencing homelessness anywhere near here. No homeless shelters are legal, no sleeping outside is legal, hell even weed stores are illegal in this massive county, despite it being legal in the majority of the state. Douglas county also created its own health department in protest of mask and vaccine mandates. It's a very affluent deeply conservative pocket in Colorado that makes me sick.

Went to Google Play to complain about Hulu. I noticed Google advertising that over 300 reviews had the verbatim quote "watch and movies that you love". It's always confusing that buggy corporate apps have >95% 5 star reviews until you see that the majority are just completely fake, and no one cares or is doing anything about it.
