Interestingly, in the Netherlands there was the "Zuiderzee" . After damming off the sea, connecting the northern parts of the country for work traffic the sea became a lake called the "IJsselmeer" which in turn turned to freshwater, and even froze over during a cold winter, As seen here and traffic actually crossed over the ice in the lake itself.

That's really cool.

I think it embodies my interest.

The local feed is only for (all) communities on your instance. I think you meant to say "subscribed"

Boycot for not inviting a country's representative that's actively waging war on a celebration of life and peace? Not a good look US and UK...

Story dlc should be dlc. Not something only obtainable through a deluxe edition coming in at 2x the price of the base game. Announced before it even fucking launched

Well it's ubisoft. What did you expect?

I hate EA as much as the next guy, but I've got to hand it to them; at least the Jedi: Fallen order and Survivor games had nothing really locked behind an extra paywall except for cosmetics that didn't change gameplay. Which is the bare fucking minimum I expect for single player games.

Never heard of that. Audio cd's have been around for a while by then. And cd players weren't expensive. But I could be wrong. I was not really in to consoles at that point.

There was also the playstation 2 releasing about 6 months after the dreamcast, with dvd capabilities, when dvd players were expensive as fuck. People were using them as a DVD player. Basically the same reason the playstation 3 sold decently at all in it's first years.

I have to turn a bolus

That's not the best drawing of Harrison Ford. Great stuff.

For internet I use TheOldNet proxy. Use the year you want to surf as the port.

Also you can update windows 98 with Windows Update Restored

After a user created half a dozen accounts in a span of 24 hours to "battle" a ban on a lemmy.world community, I'm regretting to inform that I have added an application questionnaire to the account creation process.

I want this instance to be a inviting and hassle-free home for any enthousiast of the retro kind. And unfortunately this means it's a little less accessible, and might take a bit before your account can be in use.

I will get to your application in due time, and will check regularly every day.

I hope this will catch trolls and obvious abusers more easily before they become a pain in the ass of the mods of communities.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

If you have any questions or complaints feel free to reply to this post or send me a message.

Tl;dw: he backported dotnet v2 to windows 95, adding the possibility to port software and games to Win95.

Visual studio still has the option to export to dotnet v2 in the current version.

Here's a list of different places you can chat about this series of games. We're a bit divided, but the fans are out there!

!stauf_mansion@lemmy.mods4ever.com - This Lemmy community, you're here right now! If you need a Lemmy account then go here and make the account. (Sorry, my server is too weak!) If you already have a Mastodon account (and you're feeling brave/technical) then you can put @stauf_mansion@lemmy.mods4ever.com into the search box there and follow that account.

https://discord.gg/Hss5cJg - Stauf's Mansion Discord. Pretty active with a good number of fans. ALSO HAS Stream Detective so you can find people streaming these games on Twitch! Very fun to watch people fumble through the puzzles for the first time and chat with them, just be careful with backseating. Make sure you assign yourself the roles to get notifications for Stream Detective, ask in there if you need help.

https://www.reddit.com/r/7thguest/ - Reddit community. Not very active, but with a good post or crosspost there could be people from outside the subreddit finding it.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/the13thdoll - Facebook group. Lots of fans for all the games here, very active.

https://mastodon.social/tags/the7thguest - Mastodon hashtag, you can follow hashtags on Mastodon so they automatically show up on your home feed, very handy! Also check the hashtags for#the7thguestvr, #the11thhour, and #the13thdoll and whatever else you want.

https://www.gog.com/forum/the_7th_guest_series - GOG Forum. Mostly tech support questions but there are a lot of fans there.

https://www.gog.com/forum/the_13th_doll_a_fan_game_of_the_7th_guest - again a GOG Forum but for The 13th Doll. Still mostly tech support questions.

https://www.twitch.tv/search?term=the%207th%20guest - Twitch categories so you can watch people playing the games live and chat with them (just be careful with backseating). Open each one and click Follow to add the game to your followed categories list. But honestly you're better off joining the Discord and using the Stream Detective inside there.

https://twitter.com/hashtag/The7thGuest?f=live - Twitter hashtag. Unfortunately you can't follow a hashtag on Twitter, so you gotta just check it manually. Also check hashtags for #the7thguestvr, #the11thhour (although there's some noise in there), #the13thdoll, and any other game you want. (Make sure to switch to the "Latest" tab instead of "Top")

Any other places with fans of the series? Let me know! I'm mostly hanging out here and in Discord, but I'll probably see you if you post to any of the others!

Surreal Engine is an ongoing project to reimplement UE1, mainly focused on Unreal Tournament v436 and Unreal Gold v226 at the moment.

This one has been discussed in the other linux_gaming community before, more than two years ago. Since then there were numerous improvements:

  • It can now run UT99 maps and Unreal Gold botmatch maps (whereas it was limited to only UT before), and boot up onto the intro flyby of Deus Ex.
  • Colission handling is much better (but not perfect yet).
  • Can utilize SDL2 on Linux for windowing and native Wayland support (previously it'd use pure X11, and actually still does if you don't have SDL2 installed).
  • The menus mostly work now.
  • Initial works for the AI (they will move around sometimes, and retaliate if attacked).
  • Game detection system based on the SHA1 sum of the game executable. This allows us to detect many versions of UT and U1/UGold, as well as Deus Ex, Klingon Honor Guard, NERF Arena Blast, and more!
  • A launcher has been added to select the game you want to play on startup. And lots of other improvements!

There is still a lot of work to do to implement everything though, and contributions are always welcome!

It took William Gee 20 years of mapping to finish this.

You can download the free megawad, and the first too. Or you can support them and buy it for a mp3 or costum midi soundtrack.

It is ~~compatible with the original DooM, but~~ made with gzDooM in mind.

I case you didn't know: John Romero is one of the original developers and Co founder of id Software.
