This whole thing with a series of "CommentX" accounts started because I wrote on reddit once that I hoped for this guy's death, got permabanned, and made my first new account. I think I was up in the 140's on reddit recently, still haven't made an alt for lemmy since I started with 105.

But this specific guy, who I don't usually hear much from because I don't seek out content from/about that environment, said something so ugly about how good he thought poverty and struggle was, that it made me wish the worst for him.

It's not that he's much worse than the other guys in his wealth class, I mean he's still up there but not #1 big bad by any means, but he's just so fucking overtly classist and apparently in love with the suffering of those beneath him, it's shocking.

It's disappointing to be reminded of him, and that my wish upon a star wasn't fulfilled. He should've been in that submarine.

Have them roll a perception check just prior to the ritual.

Surprise, they're the villains and a party of heroes shows up to fight them. If they don't spot the ambushing party of heroes, they'll be hit by some serious AoE spell and an assassination attempt on one of them a turn or so later.

If they win the fight and successfully summon the elder god, they have to start rolling wisdom saves or something to resist mind control, and the ones that fail and have to roll every 1-3 turns or something to try to get control again. All the while they become surrounded by not just the massive elder god but a swarm of enemies that won't hesitate to attack any party member that disobeys the elder god's orders. It'll be up to the other players whether to enter combat to try to defend their friend against the hopelessly large assault.

But what does the elder god tell them to do? Go backwards and ravage every single place the players have visited during the campaign, and maybe some random villages along the way if you need filler.

Maybe you start impromptu adding a d4 or d6 psychic damage to their attack rolls as an unconventional way to empower them. Maybe play favorites, maybe add 2d6 to the weakest member's main attack to boost them and their ego.

If it goes far and long enough maybe you start having them war against empire, do something unconventional and treat legions as single units with one health pool and doing an arrow barrage or a 'charge' that does some damage and then becomes more of a sustained melee that essentially becomes a DoT effect as far as the combat system is concerned. Like an insect swarm.

Should they successfully destroy the army and seize the seat of power, find some messed up way to do a "game over", or come here and ask again. These players want to see the game go in dramatic and strange directions.

I don't play DnD so I guess a lot of this might not be doable/practical.

Also after reading some other responses, particularly the one about how this kind of ritual is usually portrayed as requiring a bit more than a few friends, some magic words and a wish, it may or may not work better if you have a bit of backlash, scarring, and some aberrations respond to the attempt, instead of the elder god. Maybe have them run around a town or two recruiting cultists for a second attempt, something like 15-30 of them. There could also be some drama where the cultists question who is the authority as a few other cultists move to take the lead.

Why? It's natural.

Free the bush, I say.

And you'll get really intense chants, which as far as I understand it's a huge reason to go to live stadiums. Especially from the opposing team which in this case would be the thousands of protestors outside who would inevitably be very much against this whole thing.

Inside the stadium, while yes – technically there's a separation of two teams – they're both there because they want to see baby homeruns. They're all on the baby-batting team.

Pastor approves wholeheartedly!

I would assume the baby's head is what counts as the ball, here. If it detaches in a large piece and leaves the stadium, it should likely count.

This is comparatively pedantic, but have I not been reading news broadly enough, or is there actually a pattern of journalists using "junta" mainly for Latino and similar-looking tan people?

I basically never see it used to describe any African, Middle Eastern, East Asian, or Eastern European authoritarian police force. But I feel like I see it for South America and Southeast Asia relatively often.

There's more than a couple reasons a lot of westerners don't really see Gazans as victims, some of them aren't even racism.

Would be way easier to argue their case if October 7th didn't go the way it did.

It was just a really bad decision.

I'm personally in favor of cutting ties with Israel as well, considering they've strayed so far away from civility and are indeed killing a shitload of people. But I have very little compassion for the people of Gaza, given what they largely want and support. They want to fight and thresh and kill until one side is dead and gone, and we all know which side that will be. Everyone knows, except them.

We can all hope, and this time we're probably gonna be right.

But the Republicans aren't running out of people.

There's no reason to think Trump's end will make the bad half of America stop this push. There's a relatively good chance they'll find a sufficiently appealing new leader or puppet. If that falls, maybe you can rest and go back to casually provoking the religious right, playing catch with your rights, and still stay safe for a while. Members of the LGBT community dropping "Live and let live." in favor of "Use the right pronouns!" was a potentially fatal mistake.

Trump voters want to talk about making towns safe, permanently removing people who cause problems or don't play along properly, and make a society where white men to a greater extent can do some kinds of horrible abuse behind closed doors with everyone knowing, most people tolerating it, and only a few authority figures able to do anything about it if they want to or are pressured to.
