Which ones are you in? I like personal finance and am in several on Reddit, but none here.

Video not created by me, links back to the original content creators post on Reddit, but does a beautiful job showing the energy and turnout at yesterday's protest in Anchorage.

Take a look at the (drone?) shots in the Anchorage daily news article to get a sense of scale. Don't think their estimate of 1000 people is accurate πŸ˜‚.

Good for you guys! It starts with just a few people, and when people see a few people, they become emboldened to join in. Starting the ball rolling is the hardest part, IMO.

In Anchorage, AK, before yesterday, at our last protest we had maybe 500 people, the one before that, maybe 200, before that, maybe 100 etc...

Yesterday, we had THOUSANDS. 16 different communities put protests on, up from just 5 or 6, a few weeks ago. Something like 70% voted trump last year.

I called both of them. One got my thanks, and one my dissatisfaction. I don't think he cares... But I did anyway.

[–] ARealAlaskan@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago

I called one and said thanks. Called the other, and told his voicemail the same thing. Not that he will listen... Useless human.

I don't disagree that I want them to be even more vocal than those of us who saw this coming, but I think the idea that they must do more is off putting to people who are finally seeing what many of us saw coming. Allies are allies, and expecting even more than the revelation they are having isn't always going to be realistic.

I feel like maybe we should call our 4 senators (AK, MW and both KY) and say thanks for voting the way the did. I am from AK, I generally don't agree with a lot of what Lisa does, but she does have a history of occasional rank breaking, and, performative or not, she is still one of the only senators who doesn't religiously fall in line.

Eh. I don't love burrito heaven. But I also eat breakfast burritos almost exclusively, so maybe that is it.

It is amazing. They put mango salsa on it.

If you ever come to Anchorage, Alaska. Burrito factory. It's in a gas station, but they have a proper kitchen, and cook to order. Super weird, I know, but i take all my friends there when they come for a visit, and they always ask to go again, the next time they come up.

...it was delicious. I thought I abolished you... No more nonsense, thank you.

Yes! I do not understand children in breweries. It seems like irresponsible parenting to me. Taking your kid with you to a place not meant for them, while you drink, and then getting into your car and driving your kid home after?

Just go have a beer at home ffs, and don't subject me to your kid running around like a... Kid.

You, sir or madam, are an abomination and should be abolished.

Pineapple is only slimy when inappropriately treated. For pizza you need to cut into small chunks, drain over a sink for a minute, and then quick fry in a pan to give a little caramelization. THEN put on pizza and bake. It is magic, paired with Canadian bacon, salty, sweet. Yum

Best breakfast burrito: the Hawaiian. Ham, potatoes, pineapple, eggs, sour cream. In fact, you have inspired me, with your hateful statements this morning, and I'll be putting and order in shortly.

This is it, exactly.

I was at one of the Alaska empty-chair town halls, and it was good to just be around others with similar thoughts. Being surrounded by action, in a place where it is super unusual is uplifting. We arrived on time, and couldn't even get into the event because it was already full.

Each time we get together, more people come, more people talk, and share upcoming events.

Loop from town hall to begich's office, to Murkowski/Sullivan offices, and back to town hall.

Starts at 12pm.

Anchorage had a decent turnout today (3/14).

Think we hit around 250 people. Many supportive drivers. Along with 1 coal roller, a couple middle fingers, and one guy who said we were losers. Sad the news showed up after many had left, gotta call 'em earlier next time.

Hello everyone!

Brand new to Lemmy. I saw a post a few days ago talking state specific sub groups here. Tragically, I have lost the link explaining how to find them/how it works.

Can anyone help me out? Alaskans are showing up, and I'd like to make sure that the state specific stuff is put out there someplace other than Reddit.
