I've definitely seen that before so it can't have been too lost (unless parts of it later got reused or something)

There was like 8 mins of this already available and first aired episode is basically this remade.
Ah, that's probably what I was thinking of, then. I may watch it fully later in that case.
It's pretty much the 1st episode that aired. I didn't see anything different other than some of the voice actors and obviously the colors/drawings.
There were definitely some tweaks to different lines and scenes.

This wasn’t lost. It’s been on YouTube for a very long time.
Only parts of it. This is the only upload of the full episode.
The real pilot was that What A Cartoon! short with prototype Brian and Peter.
This is disorganized, but shockingly good. They hadn't quite corralled all the "and then a thing happens" into the cutaway gags. It's weird to see weak material like "not-porno-bringer" sandwiched between two perfect stupid gags. I'm not sure if the weirdest voice is Lois on quaaludes or Seth MacFarlane's bad impression of Seth Green.
Seth MacFarlane really had Peter's unflinching stupidity nailed down from the start. The whole show had to coalesce around that energy. Brian and Stewie are about right for early seasons, which is not saying much for Brian. Lois is relegated to being interrupted while nagging. The kids are not alright.
The back half loses focus.
