Why are ctrl+alt+ shortcuts blocked in librewolf (rfp) (lemmy.ml)

I've written a web app that uses ctrl+alt+ shortcuts because they don't interfere with the many expected ctrl- shortcuts. Librewolf blocks these shortcuts because of RFP, apparently. As a result I have to disable RFP for my site (or just be annoyed all the time), and I guess I'll have to advise my users to do the same.

I haven't found any doc that explicitly discusses the justification for disabling alt shortcuts. There is a bug about how ctrl- was broken for a while. This page doesn't mention alt either, that I can find.

I can guess that it probably allows identifying some keyboards somehow. Just would like to read up on it so I can at least understand what the issues are with the alt key.

Is there any reason you ~can't~ change your keybinds to something other than CTRL+combo? You explained it's to keep from interfering with other common binds but there's still a ton available to you when taking those into account.

It's your hill to die on but I wouldn't make my website usability dependent on a browser that is so rarely seen.

ctrl-alt- is wide open. For the rest you have to check with different browsers, its a pain. And you end up with combos that aren't very mnemonic. Technically I CAN change the combos to whatever, but I'd like to know WHY I have to do that.

That's exactly what I don't want to do, make my website less usable for the sake of the rarely seen librewolf. Is that what you meant?

Thx. Apparently there's a bug with shortcuts right now, even without rfp enabled.
