Man, I’m glad themes of guillotines are popping up.

No, we are hopefully past needing this in this era and can get back on track without major violence. But I keep feeling like we’re heading towards a point where we will have in desperation to pull out the guillotines once again.

People always say they want revolution, and want things to change.

Well, every revolution is changed by making the other guy say "Ok, ok, I don't want the violence anymore!"

The British didn't just hand over the colonies. We had to fight for it.

The racists in the south didn't just give up slavery. We had to fight them for it.

Vietnam didn't give up their intentions to become communist. We had to.....ok, bad example.

OH! But the middle east didn't just give up their WMDs in the early 2000s. We had to......wait, they never had nukes......and the war was pointless, and lasted 20+ years.

..........what were we talking about?

All major social changes happen through violence, people talk about guillotines but the truth is people in rich countries have a standard of living too high for anything to happen, the French Revolution happened when people in general were starving not when a minority was, revolutions still happen in poor countries, violent ones where people give their life for a cause.

What's even weirder, the guillotine only went out of fashion by 1977 .

So you’re saying there’s a chance…

Surely they're in some antique shop just laying around waiting to be featured in a restoration channel, right?

I don't want violence and we don't need it. What we need is for people to understand who is making their lives worse and who is stealing from them. It's not the blacks or gays or trans, it's the fucking billionaire and their hoards of lobbyists and bankers.

If people simply united to vote out these dipshits and excluded them from making decisions we'd all be better off.

But, half of the country is actively trying to elect a racist billionaire fascist.... So yea... We're a long way off.

Maybe a reminder that guillotines are still a thing and may be put back in service if necessary is a good first step.

Why would his hands be in it

[–] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.ml 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The people are starving and they have rumblies in their tummies that only hands can satisfy

[–] lugal@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Carl, that kills people

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

It's like a combination guillotine and pillory. Guillory? Pillotine?

Errant thought, but this reminded me of:
