Who tf uses Spotify without a premium account?

I'd rather pirate that shit that use it for free (I like to hit next all the way).

IMHO Spotify is one of the few services that it is worth to pay.

Cough cough xmanager cough cough.

On github or xmanagerapp dotcom cough.

[–] blitzkrieg@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I checked that and still don't know what it does...

[–] FierySpectre@lemmings.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Basically enable those very features that were disabled in the free version

[–] KlausBlub@feddit.de 0 points 11 months ago

As I understand it it gives you features that were available in earlier Versions? Sounds nice! But I guess it won't give you access to premium content right?

I don't know why anyone would give Spotify money when they pay Joe Rogan to spread vaccine disinformation and union bust.

I use YouTube music. It's far inferior to what Google Play Music was, which was literally perfect, but it's not Spotify and I really think it does mixes best of all. Apple Music is so very Caucasian, I gave it a shot but it just comes back to the whitest music possible every time.

I don't know why anyone would give Spotify money when...

Frankly, I do because I share a family account with ~~a bunch of people I haven't spoken to since high school~~ my family. The amount of money I pay is absolutely negligible for me, it's less than what I give to homeless people on the street.

I tried quitting Spotify because I really do hate it for a number of reasons. Apple Music was pretty shite on Android (and Linux). I also tried living without a streaming service, but ironically a lot of smaller bands don't release their music through anything but the popular streaming services. Piracy also sucks when you can only download popular music at best.

I know, lots of services are currently going to shit, but quite the timing with Bandcamp imploding, too...

[–] tkc@feddit.uk 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Oh no. What happened with Bandcamp?

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

What a shame it would be if this drove more people into using those awful cracked versions of the Spotify apk that give you most of the premium features without a premium account. Truly the godless heathens over at xManager (https://github.com/Team-xManager/xManager) must be rejoicing over this.

This wants me to download TikTok...

[–] westyvw@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I am on lemmy right?

I only skimmed, but not one single suggestion to federated our music? Isn't that what we need to do now, and not for downloading, simply sharing libraries. It's out there...

[–] Knusper@feddit.de 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Thing is, most people want to listen to copyrighted music. Federating copyrighted music is a surefire lawsuit for anyone who hosts that federated service.

And you don't need federation for acquiring music files. Torrents are better for resilience than federation, since they form a distributed network, not just a decentralized network.

There is a piece of software that implements federation for music, called Funkwhale.

This is their flagship instance: https://open.audio
That flagship instance hosts basically only Creative Commons music and podcasts, due to aforementioned problem.
The other instances I've seen federating with it, were generally self-hosted by musicians or podcasters to share their own work.

I imagine, if an instance started federating copyrighted music (which wasn't separately licensed by the artist either), it would need to be defederated by everyone else in the network ASAP, to avoid lawsuits.

[–] westyvw@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Right. In another comment i wondered how funkwhale was handling copyright.

Personally, I gave up on copyrighted music. I just don't care, there is so much freely traded music out there it just doesn't matter to me.

But then again 99 percent of music on my server is live so I know I am the oddball

[–] Knusper@feddit.de 0 points 10 months ago

Alright, yeah. I do even feel the same about copyrighted music. But lots of people want to listen to their favorite artists and will accept rather much pain to do so...

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I don't mind paying for music

[–] PraiseTheSoup@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Me neither, but I do mind paying a subscription for a shitty service that does not let me actually own anything and changes the rules every year.

[–] HerrLewakaas@feddit.de 0 points 11 months ago

I have no clue what you're talking about. I've had Spotify premium for 5-ish years and nothing has randomly changed. The UI changed a bit here and there but nothing you couldn't ignore if you wanted to and that's it. I get all the music on the planet and podcasts, it's a good deal if you ask me

[–] littlecolt@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This is literally just commercial radio.

[–] ugjka@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This is enshittification 101

[–] HerrLewakaas@feddit.de 0 points 11 months ago

Spotify is losing money, they gain nothing by having free users, if they convert some people to paying customers it's worth it for them. You can't expect to listen to music for free when license holders charge ridiculous fees.

Does xManager not work anymore or do you use apple?

[–] butsbutts@lemmy.ml 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Oof, Better watch out or you're gonna catch some .FLAC for saying egregious things like that! (Can always convert them to fit individual devices)

[–] Mo5560@feddit.de 0 points 11 months ago

I know people enjoy being snooty about audio quality and I used to as well. But at some point I just stopped caring and openly admitted that I couldn't hear a difference. I can wholeheartedly recommend!

[–] Brutticus@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I keep wondering why people even bother with spotify. Like, even on the go, I just pirate these things.

[–] cows_are_underrated@feddit.de 0 points 11 months ago

Yeah. Ads are so fucking annoying I use spottube on my pc and my downloaded stuff on my phone.
