Me to my friend who also plays: I think I only have like 2 side quests left before the end

My friend: Did you do [insert 5 full side stories I hadn't even started]

Me: ... right, so time to start a new save so I can process that.

This was my friends response when I told him about the 2nd killable dragon lol

THERE'S A SECOND ONE??

[–] superb@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Holy fuck, what?? I gotta know where

[–] Plastic_Ramses@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Underneath the city. It's the dragon wylls dad made a pact with.

[–] superb@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Wait if that’s the second, then which is the first?

i think they mean the one in

spoilerthe last battle?

i can't think of any other dragons

[–] superb@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh I think you’re right, I forgot about that guy. My best guess was Voss’s dragon in Act 1 or something

I guess in theory you can fight that dragon. Throw the iron flask at it for some fun?

Edit: apparently not, even barrelmancy will just make it fly away.

This was half the reason I had a hard time getting into BG2. I felt like I got thrown around like I was a sock in a washing machine. Side quests I was basically stuck in until they were done. Not feeling like I was properly rewarded (other than XP) for my time. If this sounds off base just keep in mind I haven't played it in 10 years.

The other half I didn't care for was the combat. I save scummed that game more than any I've ever played.

As a JRPG fan, playing BG2 was a incredible breath of fresh air. Almost every JRPG at the time railroaded you into a very linear story. Where BG2 was Just wandering, exploring, discovering random side quests. Just pick a direction and go.

I can see it being not so effective today. Open world games fill that itch better these days.

Man I really should play BG2 again. I finished it probably 5 times back in the day. My favourite build was ranger and forging the Shortbow of Gesen asap. Then you could basically just delete people.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 11 points 6 days ago

The Gesen Bow, and that +4 chainmail you can get from the token machine in Spellhold really give a huge boost.

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 10 points 6 days ago

Dang. That bow basically turns you into Hank from the D&D cartoon.

Not op, but HABITUAL restarts.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

Kinda this. I have so many saves for every branch I could find and just havent gotten very far

When the game came out, my roommate and I spent 8 days in the goblin camp. I think we were one level below what you're meant to be and we hadn't really figured out the aggro mechanics yet.

Yeah, that bit is very rough if you go full Rambo mode.

I think you're supposed to convince them you're with The Absolute and then sneak through like that. We came back for the outside after doing the inside of the base. Coming outside just got us slaughtered, so we had to teleport away and come in from the main gate. Lots of sniping from Asto was done to pick off weaker enemies.

We never figured out a way to beat the Githyanki? ambush with the dragon. We just had to keep reloading that until we could talk our way through it...

We were trying to go stealth mode but had no idea what the NPCs would "hear" and whatnot. Well also didn't know you could fast travel, so at one point we fell into the spider pit, killed the spiders, couldn't figure out how to get out, and reloaded the save..
