The only time I've had an ad on YouTube with premium(on their site) is when I went in to invisible mode.

In my opinion it's absolutely stupid that invisible mode has the capability of detecting that you have an account because it skips the age verification blocker on content-sensitive videos, but it gives ads to people with premium. It's obviously able to see that you have a YouTube account so therefore it should be able to just do the next step of saying okay does this account have premium. The only thing people are asking for was it to not log the videos they're watching but they had to make it some Next Generation NASA level secret hidden profile shit that doesn't actually do anything.

Also it really bugs me that they've added ads for YouTube and beds on discord. If I have my YouTube account linked to my Discord account I should not receive ads on the in bed. It should be able to see my YouTube account via electrons cookie system and be able to link it to an account that has premium.

If I'm paying monthly for a service without ads and I see a single (1) advertisement, I should at least get a month of free subscription because the other party is in breach of contract.

Huh weird, the only reason to use Premium is to cut out the adverts.

"Would you like to buy Premium?" "Ooh, what do I get?" "YOU GET NOTHING! GOOD DAY SIR!"

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 85 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The add is German for sure so that would make sense

[–] gratux@lemmy.blahaj.zone 49 points 3 days ago (5 children)

It also says "DE" next to the logo, so yeah.

The only benefit now, but what if they start to serve 30 non-skippable ads without premium and ONLY 5 with premium, what a deal! Right?

the “lesser evil” strategy is so hot rn

Imagine paying money to see 2 fucking ads before a video.

[–] skittle07crusher@sh.itjust.works 28 points 3 days ago (3 children)

As another reply said already

Imagine cable tv! (in the US at least, and, it seems, Canada, too)

It is so absurd until you realize people already accepted that shit.. wtf!!!

Ugh, you didn't even pay for Premium Plus?

Bloody peasant...

[–] Phegan@lemmy.world 52 points 3 days ago (3 children)

What is the benefit of premium if you still have to watch ads?

[–] And009@reddthat.com 80 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The logo gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment

[–] icedterminal@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago (2 children)

This reference will never get old tbh.

Firefox with ad blocker? You are wasting your money.

[–] astanix@lemmy.world 52 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (14 children)

My wife uses a TV to watch YouTube, My kid uses a phone, My other kid uses a tablet.

Saying just use ad block isn't feasible for everyone.

[–] Lichtblitz@discuss.tchncs.de 56 points 3 days ago (3 children)

If you use something Android based for watching YouTube on the TV (some TVs, fireTV stick, etc.), you can: https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube?tab=readme-ov-file

I haven't watched a single Ad on YouTube on TV (SmartTube), mobile (ReVanced), or PC (Firefox + uBlock origin) since it became unbearable... five years ago or so?

And this is why i,won't start paying them money. They will never be content and will just keep pushing ads further and further.

[–] AWittyUsername@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah the price will increase or ads or both. But it never just stops. It's never enough

I have premium too once I saw an ad and complained and it turned out to be a bug. I even had engineers reach out with questions when they were fixing the issue.

Maybe that has happened here? They have announced any changes.

[–] EmperorHenry@discuss.tchncs.de 59 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is why you get anti-anti-adblock userscripts in tampermonkey inside of your browser and/or the same inside of adguard for windows. Along with an adblocking DNS

Give them an inch and they'll take 1000 miles. No more money for google, ever.

[–] joyjoy@lemm.ee 27 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Don't disable uBlock Origin, even when you have YT premium. Using Chrome counts as disabling uBlock Origin

[–] EmperorHenry@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Also, don't pay for youtube premium if they're going to serve you ads either way

  • Web: Firefox + uBlock Origin
  • Mobile (Android only): Grayjay
  • TV (Android): Smarttube
  • iPhone/iPad: Brave Browser

Enjoy

[–] FuryMaker@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Why not Firefox + uBlock Origin for Android?

YouTube ads cost about $0.026 (two and a half cents) per 30 seconds of viewing. This is called cpv.

It's not fair that ss a viewer I'm not able to bid on my own to show myself an empty ad slot. I'm looking at the price of premium and it definitely seems like more revenue for YouTube than I'd give them from ads.

[–] patak@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

these posts are just getting ridiculous. USE. BRAVE. OR. FIREFOX.

[–] bitwolf@lemmy.one 11 points 3 days ago (5 children)

I get ads on premium sometimes. I think it's a fluke but def unacceptable

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Damn I just have ublock origin, so I never get ads and I don't pay a cent. Hope your premium membership works out for you tho

I feel like you don't fully understand that the line can go up. At the expense of everything...

[–] ChillPill@lemmy.world 37 points 3 days ago

Line MUST go up.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 36 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How is this a shitpost? Is it a fake screenshot?

For everyone on Android, you can just patch the youtube app using ReVanced, which will remove ads, add sponsorblock, allow you to hide shorts and the "People also watched" sections. It can be pretty tricky to patch if you don't know what you're doing so feel free to tell me if you run into any issues.

If you don't care about the algorithm and your feed, you can get the third-party client NewPipe, it's FOSS ~~but sometimes crashes while reading some videos~~ It does not seem to crash anymore, so good thing!

Pick one!

If it’s true and I get ads on my Premium (which.. to be fair I’m not paying full price anyway 😅), it may be the last push I needed to finally start reading books again..

[–] spicystraw@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

Hey, so I canceled my YouTube Premium subscription a couple of months back and decided to pick up reading instead. It's a different kind of entertainment, but I'm actually really enjoying it. I've been finding some really great books, and I'm finding it just as hard to put them down as I used to find it hard to stop binge-watching my favorite channels.
