I've been drawing every day, which started as an outlet from work. I decided to focus all my art into my personal universe. I have volumes and volumes of detailed setting information in my head but very little written down. Doing the art is a way for me to make some of that lore concrete and I can hopefully come back later with text to string it all together, and to give me more ideas to branch off as each drawing inspires more drawings.

Oh my gosh, hi! I instantly recognized your work from !artshare@lemmy.world! It’s fun to see the same people around in different communities. I’m not sure how much you browse, but you may have seen my pen and paper sketches that were posted on an old account.

Anyways, they look fantastic! I always used to wonder if your works were for an organized setting because they seemed pretty consistent. You will definitely continue to receive my upvotes.

Thanks! I searched your name but I'm not sure what your old account was, I do browse and upvote a lot of art to support people. If you post a link I'm sure I've seen it.

Pretty much all my art these days is for my worldbuilding because finishing one piece inspires the next one, and I find it both interesting and challenging to keep everything in the same setting.

I've been teaching myself to draw for the exact same reasons you do it. Hopefully the quality of my work will catch up to yours soon, lol. Right now, I'm great at drawing things from reference, but the moment I try to draw something from my own head, the skill I thought I had just vanishes...

Thanks for the attention. I've been trying to improve by drawing more consistently, so I hope to have more in the future. I'll keep an eye out especially for your posts on art share.

I have been building a desert city for a ttrpg adventure. If I were to have more time I would have loved to be able to do some illustrations and maps as well, but I had to focus first on people, places, and politics. Anyway, it's getting along quite nicely. An orchard in the desert that has become an important commercial route because it has water. The desert is in the rain shadow of a mountain chain and the city is just at the base on the dry side.

Might I ask which TTTPG? Or is it a general setting for any game?

[–] Jocarnail@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

The setting is my own. As for the game, we are trying Shadow of the Weird Wizard.

I've been coming up with alien races to populate an entire galaxy as part of a cyberpunk/sci-fi setting I've been writing for the last 6 years.

The longest I’ve ever worked on a project is two years… Props to you! I have a really bad habit of not finishing anything because I have a lot of ideas that are always “more interesting” than my last.

Do you do much speculative biology for your aliens? I’ve been getting into that a lot recently.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The only thing I utilize is the rule of cool. If it sounds cool, their biology will have it. 😎

[–] sbf 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'd say that's the best way to do it. I like to have evolutionary reasons for the biologies my species have, but the plausibility of those reasons are the least of my concerns, lol.

Been getting ready for winter and finishing up outdoor projects that have been sitting around for the last couple of years. So when spring comes along, I don't have to finish shit I left around and I can start on the next big project.
