The association said in a statement on Wednesday the tariffs would hurt European and U.S. carmakers exporting from China and risked retaliation by China with counter-tariffs, which would hit the German industry hard given its high volume of exports to China.

Very interesting. I would have guessed that German and other European car makers were behind the tariffs. Who benefits from them?

On a different note, I can't help but laugh at the accusation that China supports their car industry too much. Germany is doing exactly the same. Most new cars are not bought by private persons but companies who are able to write them off when filing taxes. It is not just for German cars but they benefit the most.
