Three months later, a New Mexico judge ordered Griffin to leave public office immediately. It was the first time an elected official had been removed for rebellion against the United States since the Civil War. Griffin was also "barred for life" from holding any public office in the future under the Constitution's "insurrection clause" in the Fourteenth Amendment.

So they are aware this exists.

I still don't get why trump hasn't been disqualified under the 14th. Pretty fucking clear.

The government is worried about the insane backlash that would happen.

They expect and are probably right in that Jan 6 was just a small taste of what would happen if they tried it.

Remember that almost half of the country still supports R over D, and in law enforcement it is far higher.

This is why movements like the alt-right, who are prone to irrational decisions and violence need to be cut down from the start.

This can only really be solved by increased education, but due to the distrust and missmanagement of the US education system, it is hard to solve this.

As of right now I believe that the leaders are waiting for Trump to fade away.

If only we had a hyper militarized police force - oh, right, tons of them (yes yes I know not all) prefer the fascists what a shocker.

Less than half. Roughly 1/3 voted for the orange plump ball in the last election. There will be less now, as many factions are seeing through his lies finally, even evangelicals.

The evil isn't as big as it looks, it's just loud.

While good, everyone, please vote.

The Silent Majority is neither the majority, nor silent.

Colorado ruled that he was ineligible due to having participated in the insurrection, and then the USSC ruled that nothing prevents him from running, only holding office, so they had to keep him on the ballot.

They didn't actually say he can hold office, but they basically punted it to congress to declare that he can't, and would need to perform a vote to allow him to hold office.

But Congress won't do their duty, and the current house would majority vote to allow him to run because it's fully of corrupt.

The Supreme Court went out of their way to dodge the 14th Amendment question. Both during questioning and in their ruling.

Couy Boy Griffin is such a hoser. "Barred for Life", how's that feel? And yes, this should be applied ALL the J6ers, incl. the "mastermind" #45.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's worded so they have to have sworn an oath/held office prior to the insurrection to be barred for life.

[–] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Doesn’t trump fall under this tough? He swore to uphold the constitution in his oath of office at Inauguration day.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Yes, absolutely. I was just saying you can't bar every mouth breather that rioted because most never held office.

[–] j4k3@lemmy.world 57 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That was no riot. That was a failed coup

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 49 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It was a terrorist attack.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Let's just be generous to them and say it was all three.

[–] scottmeme@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Good, can we just send all the degenerates to deep space now

[–] ThermonuclearCactus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, there's already enough junk floating around up there.

[–] scottmeme@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What about a collapsing star?

Yeah that would probably work

[–] rauls4@lemm.ee 15 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Willing to bet that man has never touched a cow.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That would be Couy Griffin former representative of part of New Mexico, and founder of Cowboys for Trump, now he is just a felon.

[–] rauls4@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So, has he ever touched a cow?

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 9 points 2 weeks ago

Probably inappropriately.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I'm sure he's touched the inside of a cow many times. At his favorite steakhouses. And he probably puts ketchup on them like his hero.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

Do the time.
