Waiting for the presidential debate feels like waiting for a train to crash. But how bad can it be?

What are your guesses at what will happen? I am curious to compare the answers to what actually happens tonight

What will probably happen is Trump will say a hundred stupid things no-one bats an eye to. Biden will screw up one soundbite and conservative media will twist and beat that dead horse until it get reincarnated.

Lightning strikes and both candidates die in a horrible freak accident. Oh wait, you asked worst caseโ€ฆ

[โ€“] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 18 points 5 months ago

Then we enter the Kamala Harris vs Marco Rubio presidential timeline lol

[โ€“] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Would make Trump a martyr or conspiracy about assassination via lightning, so still kinda bad.

[โ€“] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 15 points 5 months ago (1 children)

God took him because he misses him

[โ€“] Daxtron2@startrek.website 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Literally any way he dies he will become a martyr. Just get it over with.

So what's the solution?

He's a paedophile, convicted felon, corrupt, bankrupt, a wannabe dictator and his entire team are either incompetent, criminals, or have left him, which proves how much he sucks.

It's clear the zombies following him will keep on believing any of the bullshit from the White House's Dementia Patient Number 2 (Mr. Dictator) so what can Americans do (I'm European but genuinely concerned).

To all Trump supporters and general Republicans reading this: Listen, I know the Deep State is real, but this indirect Russian puppet that keeps on deflecting to China is not the solution. And if you see Trump as your Biblical God-sent saviour, remember the Bible also states that before the second coming of Christ, there will be a false idol, the Antichrist, which is far closer to what Trump is. America needs a Democratic Leader to uphold the Republic. By supporting a wannabe dictator, the Republicans slipped up. The Grand Old Party? Where is the Grandeur in felon and pedophile? Show the Republicans they screwed up by not voting for Trump and we can hope they regain the grandeur they claim to possess.

Biden starts going on about anti-Zionism being antisemitism; Trump's counterargument is an antisemitic dogwhistle

They both stay alive through the end of it

A few more squares and we have the bingo board ready to go

[โ€“] RIPandTERROR@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 months ago

The prompt says worst case scenario ๐Ÿ˜‚

[โ€“] adarza@lemmy.ca 21 points 5 months ago

biden stammers twice, but otherwise is impeccable.

cnn lobs nothing but softballs to the orange one. still screws 'em up, goes off on tangents, spouts nothing but lies, rages about everything. declared the 'winner'.

[โ€“] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 18 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I think im watching it now. It makes me laugh in a sad sad way.

[โ€“] swayevenly@lemm.ee 5 points 5 months ago

[โ€“] njm1314@lemmy.world 17 points 5 months ago

Thanks for setting this monkey paw off there buddy

[โ€“] Contramuffin@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I expect it'll probably be relatively boring. Trump likely has been coached to hell and back not to say unhinged shit. Of course, he can't control himself so he's going to say some unhinged shit, but it's definitely not going to be to the same frequency and magnitude that he normally is.

Meanwhile, Biden is going to play the "Trump is unhinged, so Republicans please vote for me" strategy, which is going to be unexciting to both Republicans and Democrats.

I think the debate itself is going to be dull, and what will really sway the population is what the media and social media run with afterward. ie, it'll be determined entirely by who has the more embarrassing slip-up. God this country is fucked

[โ€“] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

So basically a meme-war

[โ€“] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 14 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Probably the worst thing would be if they both walked to the middle of the stage and started 69ing each other before announcing that they're partnering up and running together for the 2024 ticket as co-presidents.

[โ€“] Crabhands@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 months ago

I'll donate to that

[โ€“] z00s@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

...and they called it, "The aristocrats"

Wow. I've never seen this before and I really liked it.

[โ€“] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

I was going to write a long series of events that grew in oddity and hilariousness until we all died a gruesome death, but that's a lot of effort, so I'll just put this here.

[โ€“] pr06lefs@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 months ago

The debate site is stormed by fascist militia, most democrats in the building are killed. Trump survives thanks to far right connections and mainstream media plays him up as a profile in courage.

[โ€“] shortwavesurfer@monero.town 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

A gunman could walk in with an AK-47 and shoot everybody dead on live tv... Oh wait, you mean what will happen in the debate? Well obviously since it's already over, we know the answer to that.

[โ€“] ssm@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 5 months ago

They said the worst thing that could happen, not the best.

[โ€“] LodeMike@lemmy.today 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

One of them dies and/or kills someone else

[โ€“] LodeMike@lemmy.today 2 points 5 months ago

[โ€“] BigBananaDealer@lemm.ee 0 points 5 months ago

[โ€“] 800XL@lemmy.world -1 points 5 months ago

[โ€“] DavidDoesLemmy@aussie.zone -1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Which presidential debate? Which country are you in?

[โ€“] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Although I share your sentiment about the US not being the world, this case I think is self explanatory. Myself I am in central Europe with no affiliation to the US but you'd have to live under a rock, if you've missed the buildup to this debate

[โ€“] ekky@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Welcome to my rock, i guess.

I'm vaguely aware that the USA is gearing up for another political tragedy, but who, living outside of the USA, actually follows that stuff? Can't influence the outcome much either way if you can't vote, except perhaps by spreading propaganda.

[โ€“] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Its frontpage material in all 3 scandinavian media (denmark sweden norway). I imagine most of the world really though. Although the rest of the world has no influence on the result, the result has a huge impact on the rest of the world

[โ€“] ekky@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yes, the USA is a master of making itself seem much more powerful and important than it really is, and what do news outlets love more than painting the devil onto the walls? Denmark living in the USA's pocket doesn't help much either.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if more Europeans know the presidents of China, Russia, and the USA than know the name of our own European prime minister, which would be pretty sad if actually true.

Of course it's important to know what other countries are up to, and the EU is currently reliant on the USA for conflict handling (please make a joint European army), but unless you plan to intervene then I see no reason to fanatically follow their politics. Just tell me whether we'll have to deal with some ancient inept dude, or another ancient inept dude who has managed to weaponize incompetence.

[โ€“] theshatterstone54@feddit.uk 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I bet most people don't even know she's a woman (I assume when you say EU PM, you mean president of the European Commission)

[โ€“] ekky@sopuli.xyz 2 points 5 months ago

Yup, our everybody's dear Ursula. I realize that Europe has many institutes and multiple unions, but I feel that the EU best represents Europe as a whole. And, of the multiple bodies the EU is made of, the European Commission often lays face to news and is said to hold the most "power".

[โ€“] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 1 points 5 months ago

You say you're not tuned in to any of this yet you're here talking about it and have presumably read through the comments to know the context. This is like peak redditor energy.

[โ€“] TheBigBrother@lemmy.world -3 points 5 months ago

Biden starts talking to ghosts..
